John Leonard BRADLEY
October 25, 1943 - February 12, 2026
Born in Windsor, Ontario he enlisted in the military in 1960, where he served with distinction as a Gunner in the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery (RCHA) and rose to the rank of Sergeant. John’s distinguished 27-year military career spanned three tours to West Germany, and postings to Winnipeg, Shilo and Saskatoon in Canada. He took particular pride in serving as a United Nations Peacekeeper during Operation DANACA in Egypt in 1974 (UNEF II Egypt). He retired from active duty with the Canadian Forces Recruiting Group in 1987. John proudly wore his blue Peacekeeper beret and service metals annually at the Montgomery Place Remembrance Day service and laid the wreath on behalf of Peacekeepers.
While stationed in Germany, John met his wife June on a blind date in England, marrying on November 18, 1967. They were blessed with two daughters, Helen and Karen. John and June were married for 58 years with many happy times, travel, and enduring friendships from military days, including long time friendships with Norm and Isobel Flower and Ross and Elfriede Campbell.
First joining in 1979 while stationed in West Germany, John was a proud Mason and really shone in the concordant bodies. He was widely involved in the York Rite bodies attaining recognition and accolades at a provincial, national and international level. Members who belonged alongside him speak highly of his commitment and zeal. John dedicated his time to the organization and valued his role as a Brother, mentor, and friend.
Dedication, hard work, and clear expectations were hallmarks of John’s personality. These characteristics were instilled in his daughters and granddaughter, whom he was immensely proud of. John leaves a legacy of service, deep devotion to his family, and a dedication to meticulousness.
John was predeceased by his parents, Leonard and Olive Bradley, and half-brother Richard Cochrane. Lovingly remembered by his wife June (nee Spence); his daughters Helen (Michael) Scharf and Karen (Jason) Bradley; and his beloved granddaughter, Olivia Doll. He is survived by his half-sister Wanda Lawhead, his sister-in-laws Marian Spence and Sue Spence, a brother-in-law Michael Spence, nieces and nephews Scott Spence, Kirsty Mowbray, Andrew Spence, Richard Spence, and Veronica Robertson and their families.
Thank you to the staff at the Hospice at Glengarda who cared for John and his family during his final hours.
