It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Edward Hanlin of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, who left us on November 26, 2024. John was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, his legacy of kindness and service will forever be cherished.
John was preceded in death by his loving wife, Alice Covlin, who passed away on July 3, 2018. He is survived by his current wife, Lynn Douglas, his son Brian Hanlin (Gabriela Parsons), his daughter Lorna Phillips, and his cherished grandchildren Ashley Lapierre (Cody), Taylor Oviatt (Cameron), B James and Aryana Hanlin. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Beau and Belle Lapierre and Jovi Oviatt who brought immense joy to his life.
Born in Eastend, Saskatchewan on January 3, 1939. John dedicated his life to helping others. On May 21, 1961, he married Alice and they embarked on a journey to climb the mountain of life together. Professionally, John began his career as a draftsperson although his true calling was in community service. He returned to his passion helping others by working with Scouts Canada in Calgary and later in Saskatoon, he played a key role in raising awareness and support for scout troops across Western Canada. You can see some of his scouting artifacts and accomplishments at the museum in Eastend Sk. He was a devoted member of McClure United Church and had a passion for outreach, bible study and choir. John was active in community organizations and projects such as Rotary International, Toastmasters, Truth and Reconciliation. He supported vital causes such as the United Way, Operation Eyesight, and many more. John helped out in person everywhere he was needed, church functions, food bank etc...
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in John's name to Nutana Rotary Club reflecting his commitment to making the world a better place.
