John Milton Hyde

1926 — November 29, 2019

IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John "Jack" Hyde

John Hyde passed away on Friday November 29, 2019 at the Veterans Home in Saskatoon. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Grace, his children Joan, Carol (Hap), John (Grace), and James, and his sister Lois Bosinger.  He was predeceased by his daughter Eveline in 1974.

Jack joined the Navy at 17 and was very proud of his service.  He loved to tell stories about the trips he took, including around the Americas and to Australia.  In 1954, Jack built his house in Montgomery and lived there with his family for 60 years. In 1954, he began a 34 year career as a city bus driver, retiring in 1988.

Jack was active in Scouts for many years, participating in numerous camping and canoe trips.  Jack started building a cabin in the 1970s and the family still enjoys it today.  He always took on new projects, including building a camping trailer and a cedar strip canoe.  In retirement, Jack took up curling, spent more time at the lake, and always had work to do around the house or cabin.  Even in his later years, there wasn't a ladder he wouldn't climb.

Jack has eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren that he loved to drive to activities, play cards with, and watch hockey with.  His door was always open to family and friends - literally the door was rarely locked.  Though he didn't always say much, he was always listening and observing.  He would be quick to offer you a drink and some treats and hoped you would stay awhile.
