John "Jock" Cleghorn

John "Jock" Cleghorn passed away peacefully at City Hospital on August 12, 2026, at the age of 91, with his family by his side. 

Jock was born, and spent most of his life in the Asquith district, where he farmed, raised his family, and built a life full of hard work, friendships, sports, and community. He and his wife, Shirley, were proud to call the area home for many years. The round barn was a well-known landmark that became familiar to many and attracted visitors from all over the world. 

Jock was a sports guy through and through. He played, coached, watched, talked about, and likely had an opinion on just about every sport going. He was a true Saskie guy, a die-hard Riders fan and an equally devoted Blue Jays fan. He loved when they won, was frustrated when they lost, and was always ready to tell you exactly what they should have done differently. One of his proudest moments was being inducted into the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame alongside his buddies from the 1960-69 Asquith Braves-a recognition that meant a great deal to him, his many teammates, family and friends. 

Jock was also the kind of guy who always had time to help. If something was happening in the community, chances were, Jock was involved in some way. He gave his time generously, never expecting anything in return, and made friends wherever he went. He loved a good conversation, a good laugh, and keeping up with what was happening around him. 

After retiring from the farm, Jock and Shirley moved to Asquith, where they enjoyed their retirement years. In 2017 they moved to Saskatoon, where Jock quickly made new friends and continued making memories right up until his passing. 

Jock will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Shirley; daughter Denise of Saskatoon; sons Ron of Saskatoon and Dale of High River; and his priceless pride and joy, his only granddaughter, Delayney of High River. He will be deeply missed and no doubt keeping an eye on the scoreboard somewhere. 

Special thanks to the dedicated staff on the 6200 Unit of Saskatoon City Hospital for their gentle guidance, professionalism, and unwavering support during Jock's stay and peaceful passing. 

Let's get together to remember Jock...please bring your favourite stories and smiles, for a Celebration of Life, to the Asquith Seniors Centre, Main Street, Asquith, SK on Saturday, August 22nd at 2:00 pm.
