Sr. Josie Germaine - Sister of Our Lady of Sion

Nov.17, 1932 - Jan. 24, 2026

Sr. Josie passed away peacefully on January 24, 2026 in Saskatoon, SK. She is survived by her beloved religious family, the Sisters of Our Lady of Sion and many nieces, nephews and dear friends of her adopted Germaine, MacIntyre and Fortosky families.

Josie spent most of her life loving and teaching little children in Winnipeg, Montreal, Toronto, Kansas City, Strasbourg, France and Cairo, Egypt. Three special places and people in her heart were teaching the little children in Winnipeg with three Sion Sisters who founded a parochial school there. Then in Montreal Josie was the co-foundress of Ecole Bilingue Notre Dame de Sion, a Kindergarten to Grade 6 bilingual school. Thirdly, in Strasbourg, where she was foundress of a kindergarten "Les Lutins de Sion" for children of the families of the Parliament of Europe.

In her retirement in Montreal, she volunteered from the heart in many roles in St Sixte Parish because for Josie anything that was sacred needed cleanliness and special care. She loved liturgy and joyfully directed the singing of the congregation at all their masses for 10 years. Besides that, she visited the sick in hospitals.

Then having moved to Saskatoon in 2016 she shared her love for music at Trinity Manor as organist, as well as devoting herself as a creative sacristan. In 2024 she moved to St. Joseph's Care Home where she received wonderful care and attention from the Ukrainian Sisters, just as she herself had so generously given.
