Joy Elaine Muench

It is with great sadness and much love that we announce the passing of Joy Elaine Muench (née Kembel).

Joy was born on July 6, 1957, in Kerrobert, to Reinhold and Lillian Kembel. She grew up in nearby Luseland, alongside her brother Ray and sister Leslie.

Joy followed her passion to care for others and attended the Foothills Hospital School of Nursing in Calgary, graduating in 1978 as a Registered Nurse.

In 1979, Joy married Keith Muench. Together they moved to Saskatoon and later, in 1983, made their home in Martensville, where they raised their three children, Jenna, Drew and Dane.

Joy was a devoted mother and the ultimate hockey mom. She spent countless hours supporting her children and especially loved watching her boys play hockey. Family was at the center of Joy’s life, and there was very little she wouldn’t do for the people she loved.

For more than 40 years, Joy dedicated herself to nursing within maternity, caring for mothers and their new babies. Specifically, she worked in obstetrics at the old Saskatoon City Hospital and later moved to Royal University Hospital when maternity services were transferred there. Joy continued working in the maternity until her retirement. Caring for others came naturally to Joy, both in her profession and throughout her life.

Joy was kind and thoughtful, with an enormous heart. She had a way of making people feel cared for and was cherished by so many. She was also blessed with wonderful friendships throughout her life. Her friends meant the world to her, and some of her happiest moments were the simple ones: sitting down for coffee with a good friend, sharing a laugh or catching up on life.

She inherited her mother Lillian’s quick wit and could always bring humour to a conversation. Joy loved spending time at the lake and treasured the time spent there with family and friends.

There was rarely a shortage of delicious treats when Joy was around, and true to her generous nature, she took just as much pleasure in sharing what she made as she did in making it.

Joy will be deeply missed by her husband, Keith Muench; her children, Jenna Richards (Bryn), Drew Muench (Lindsey Gerwing) and Dane Muench; her brother, Ray Kembel (Beth); her sister, Leslie Mylie; and the many family members and dear friends whose lives were made better simply by having Joy in them. She was predeceased by parents, Reinhold and Lillian Kembel.

Joy was deeply loved, and she will be deeply missed.

At Joy’s request, there will be no funeral service. Her love, kindness and the memories she created will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
