Joyce Betty Diener

October 7, 1952 — May 17, 2026

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joyce Diener, age 73, on May 17, 2026, after a brief battle with lung cancer. Joyce was born on October 7, 1952, to Alfred and Elsie Daelick, in Lanigan, Saskatchewan. She grew up on the family farm near Esk with her parents and four siblings. Joyce attended school in Lanigan and went on to the Saskatoon Business College after graduation. She married Ron on July 15, 1972 and together they built their home and life in Lanigan.

Ron and Joyce had two daughters, Carla and Terri, and family life soon became the center of Joyce’s world. Joyce devoted much of her time to volunteering with the Lanigan Skating Club and the Lanigan Dance Club. She became well known for hosting sewing bees with the other moms, ensuring costumes were ready for every performance. Always willing to lend a hand, Joyce could be counted on whenever something needed to be done. Handy and resourceful, she was never afraid to tackle a new project and could fix just about anything. Joyce loved supporting her daughters in all their activities and never missed a performance or game. She and Ron were always there to drive the carpool, and the volleyball teams could always count on them.

Following Joyce’s retirement from PotashCorp, Ron and Joyce moved to Saskatoon. Joyce loved being involved in her grandchildren’s busy lives and could always be found in the crowd at dance competitions and recitals, hockey games and practices, football games, soccer games, and every special event. “Grandma” was always there for her grandchildren and treasured the many family vacations they shared together, including trips to Hawaii, Phoenix, Mexico, and many other adventures.

Joyce loved the family cabin at Barrier Lake, where she spent every summer. The lake was truly her happy place, and summer was her favorite time of year because it meant long days spent with her family. She cherished morning coffees when everyone gathered to visit, laugh, and plan the day ahead. Joyce spent countless hours in the boat watching her family surf, ski, tube, and swim, happiest when everyone was together enjoying the water. Whether she was golfing, snowmobiling, relaxing on the deck, or simply taking in the beauty of the lake, the memories created at Barrier Lake were among her most treasured. The cabin at Barrier Lake will forever hold the heart of countless family memories and reminders of Joyce’s love, laughter, and presence. During the winter months, Joyce also loved traveling with her two sisters and their husbands, creating many memories together through their adventures.

Joyce is lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Carla (Ryan) Mahussier and Terri Sewell; her four grandchildren, Taylor, Bailey, Ashlyn, and Jaden; her sisters and brother, Janice (Jim) Froats, Allan (Virginia) Daelick, and Joan (Gary) Froats; her mother-in-law, Margaret Diener; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

She was predeceased by her parents, Elsie and Alfred Daelick; her husband, Ron Diener; her brother, Ray Daelick; and her sister-in-law, Mary Daelick.

Joyce spent a short but comfortable stay at the Hospice at Glengarda in Saskatoon prior to her passing. The family extends their sincere gratitude to the staff for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joyce’s memory may be made to the Hospice at Glengarda.

A celebration of life with close family and friends will be held at a later date.
