Karen Korchinski

November 27, 1959 — September 22, 2024

Karen passed away Sunday, September 22, 2024 in Saskatoon. She will be remembered for her sense of humor, generosity, gorgeous smile, and fierce independence. She had a unique laugh and a voice that carried. She lived life unabashedly to her own accord. She was a force of nature, one of a kind, and the life of the party.

Karen is predeceased by her beloved father Bonace and cherished brother Larry.

She left behind her mother Anne, sister Brenda (Michel), brothers Robert (Gail), Brian (Christine), sister in law Stacey, nieces Camille (Evan), Kate, Madeline, Jennifer, Indie, nephews David, (Meredith, Francis & Nicolas), Alexandre (Brenna), Luc (Sherelle), Graham, Daniel (Raelyn), Kevin (Taylor), Paul, dear friends, and many loved ones.

Her favourite memories were spent with her family at Nesslin Lake from a young age. It began as camping trips in a tent trailer at the campground, and eventually morphed into the purchase of a lot, which led to a multi bedroom cabin that could house the entire family. As a child, she spent time with her siblings tunneling into the iconic sand hill which now dons a sign warning the public of the man-made erosion. She spent many hours on the cabin deck, down at the infamous public beach, and nestled up cozy surrounded by her adoring family at the campfire. She shared a bed with her parents’ mischievous yellow lab Brandy which was often sand filled and soggy. Many laughs were shared there amongst old and new friends.

Karen shared many stories about her time spent in public relations at the Calgary zoo, which sparked her love for all animal creatures great and small. She was passionate about her career at the Star Phoenix where she spent many positive years of her life, numerous friends were gained along the way.

Karen showed deep love for her close friends and their families. They shared trips to Puerto Vallarta and many global destinations, as evidenced by a large collection of Mexican glassware in her treasured town house. She wouldn't turn down a margarita, chips, and guacamole. They bonded over her 'crush' on Steven Tyler, and she supported her friends’ musical endeavors.

Aunty Karen was a major centerpiece in the lives of her nieces and nephews from birth to adulthood, and found an abundance of joy in quality time with us. She was often the guest of honor at birthday parties, events, and weddings, being known for her skill in hand picking gifts that were a hit, and coined the term 'cheese party' which went down in history. She had the super ability to locate 'rock star parking' wherever she went. Aunty Karen was only a text or phone call away, or ready to meet us for a beer if we had a bad day. Aunty Karen offered a listening ear, and was ready to provide advice, whether we asked for it, or not.

When physical visits became more difficult, she found joy in receiving pictures and videos of her great nephews, and the many dogs of the family. Karen showed generosity in her final days by caring for Alexandre’s cat Freyja, which we believe brought her laughter and comfort.

In conclusion, you are deeply missed. We love you to the moon and back.

A celebration of life will take place on Saturday October 26th, 2024 at 2 pm at 733 Broadway Ave #101(Broadway Collective).

We welcome gifts of dog and cat food, and toys that will be donated to the SPCA of Saskatoon in her honor. Guests are encouraged to prepare words, music, or any tribute to Karen as there will be an open mic; there will be access to guitars and a drum kit. Feel free to wear something that reminds you of her; whether it be a costume because she loved Halloween, a souvenir from a trip to Mexico, or anything that you think would make her smile.
