On December 8, 2025, Katherine Ann Sproxton, 68, passed away peacefully at home in Saskatoon.
Born February 14, 1957 in Regina to loving parents Rosella and Everett Gibson, Kathy grew up in the village of Dysart and spent much time on the nearby family farm, places she always held close to her heart.
In 1974 Kathy graduated from Dysart High School, working at Pasqua Hospital and Federated Co-op prior to attending the University of Saskatchewan. In 1976 she enrolled at SIAST, graduating as a Certified Nursing Assistant in 1977. Her employment at Fort Qu'Appelle Indian Hospital and the Plains Hospital in Regina gave her very valuable nursing experience. In 1981 she enrolled in the bridging program at Kelsey Institute in Saskatoon and graduated as an RN in 1982. While in Fort Qu'Appelle she met Lory Sproxton and they were married in 1982. The newlyweds moved to Churchill where Lory worked as a flight service specialist and Kathy as a nurse, including flying to and from the hospital with patients, who lived in the north. In 1984, they moved to Swift Current for a year and then settled in Saskatoon. There Kathy worked at St. Paul's Hospital and Saskatchewan Air Ambulance as a flight nurse and later clinical coordinator. In 2008 Kathy obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She retired from air ambulance in 2017 but worked at Prairieview Surgical Centre until 2022.
Kathy loved her three sons, Evan, Joel and Travis. She was a great mother, cheering them on at hockey games and all their activities in childhood and continuing to be their cheerleader throughout her life.
Animals brought great joy to Kathy. Music was another passion of hers, as she sang in choirs, a rock band, and as a soloist. The cabin at Anglin Lake was a very special place for Kathy. She loved walking her dog in the woods or with friends on the shores and riding in the pontoon boat, especially at sunset.
Kathy was the ultimate caregiver. She reached out to family, friends and acquaintances in times of joy and sadness, with a call, card, text, visit or gift of food. These kind gestures will always be remembered.
Kathy is survived by her husband, Lory, her sons, Evan, Joel and Travis (Taylor), her sister, Lynn Pawelko, sisters-in-law, Lee Korpess, Pat (Seamus) Hughes and Diana Sproxton (Ali) and many nephews and nieces, extended family and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, Everett (1962) and Rosella Gibson (1996), brother, Ward Gibson (1992) and sister, Joan Stellick (2017).
Kathy was grateful for all the healthcare workers involved in her care, especially John C., Karen M., Laura C., Jamie and Sarah from Home Care and the staff from MAID Saskatoon.
A celebration of Kathy's life will be held at 1:30 PM on Saturday, December 13, 2025 at Saskatoon Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations to PSP Research at CurePSP.org are greatly appreciated.
