She is pre-deceased by her father, Robert Ballantyne, brother, Robert Ballantyne (Cathy Brotzell), mother, Flora Jean Ballantyne, brother-in-law, Dwight Adam.
Born in Yorkton on December 6th, 1956, she was raised across the prairie provinces, attending many schools throughout her elementary and high school years. She was educated in the College of Nursing in Red Deer and completed early childhood education at Mount Royal College in Calgary, and worked in pediatrics, psychiatry, and palliative care extensively. Meeting on Valentine's Day in 1986, Peter and Kenna were married on September 13th of the same year and welcomed their daughter the following year. In 1989, they welcomed their son, while Kenna continued nursing. Due to the demands of overnight shifts, and the beginning of Peter's business, Kenna made the difficult decision to become a homemaker, a vocation which she excelled at. Throughout their marriage, Kenna and Peter traveled overseas to Ireland and various other destinations where they made many connections and lasting friendships.
In her early years, she was a member of the Daughters of Job. In later years, she was active as a parent in Pony Club, fundraising and organizing other activities. With her children in elementary school, she was involved in bake sales and fun nights. Later on, when her children reached high school, she was a chaperone on several band trips.
In the last ten years with her children across Canada, Kenna developed a passion for beekeeping and honey production. She was generous with gifts of honey to neighbours, friends, and many acquaintances. An avid researcher and reader, she was passionate in her pursuits. She supported a large active network of friends and connections. Even as a private woman, she cast a wide net of love, compassion and respect. Kenna was a great lover of animals, having cats, dogs, and horses throughout her life.
In 1994, Peter and Kenna bought a cabin at Candle Lake. For many years, they enjoyed weekends and holidays with their children, family, and friends, boating, fishing, and cooking marshmallows and bush pies over an open fire.
In lieu of gifts, donations can be made to Cystic Fibrosis Canada or the Saskatoon Food Bank.
The funeral service will take place on Monday, October 6, 2025 at 11:00am at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church (436 Spadina Crescent E.)
