KENNETH SINCLAIR MACDONALD

OCTOBER 2, 1925 – APRIL 10, 2019

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Kenneth Sinclair MacDonald, who

passed away peacefully on April 10, 2019 at the age of 93. He was surrounded by family and the excellent care of the doctors and nurses at Royal University Hospital.

Ken was born on October 2, 1925 in Grayson, Saskatchewan, the younger of two boys. He grew up in Grayson and Abernathy enjoying and playing all sports, especially hockey. He developed a love of the Montreal Canadians hockey team at an early age … a love that he passed to his children and grandchildren.

At the age of sixteen, Ken began his career with the Bank of Nova Scotia as a bike courier in Saskatoon. He would take documents and packages from branch to branch on his bicycle. After World War II, he returned to the bank and retired in 1985 having reached the level of District Manager of Saskatchewan. His banking career required him to move often and he and his family lived in nine different towns and cities over his 44 years with the bank.

Ken joined the Canadian Navy in 1942. He was underage and needed his Mother to sign the papers so he could enlist and fight for his country. He loved telling stories about his time as the signalman on his ship. This was an important job complicated by the fact that he was colorblind.

In 1950, Ken met Luella Binkley at a church young people’s evening in Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan where he had been transferred. They would spend the next 68 years together, raising their three daughters, and enjoying their grandchildren and great grandchildren. They built a wonderful life together, full of love, service, commitment and humor.

Ken was a social person who loved to visit customers, friends, family, anyone who would discuss the day’s events with him. His favorite topic, however, would always be sports. His favorite part of his working life was coffee with the locals in whatever town we lived in. It makes us smile to think he is already back in coffee row.

Ken is survived by his wife, Luella, his three daughters, Kathy (Joe) Read, Marsha (Grant) Scharfstein, and Joanne (Paul) Morgan, his brother, Jack MacDonald, his nine grandchildren, Samantha, Joey, Sandra, Michael M, Becky, Michael S, Jennifer, Kenny and Robbie and his eight great grandchildren, Alexandra, Matthew, Lavie, Deakon, Sean, Taylor, Sophie and Emilia.

The funeral service will be held at Saskatoon Funeral Home on Monday, April 15 ^th at 10:00. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Donations can be made to woundedwarriors.ca.
