Larry Bruce Newman

Sep 2, 1953 — Oct 1, 2026

We lost a special person on October 1, 2026 when Larry died.
He was a Montgomery Place kid, growing up in a house built by his parents Bernard and Evelyn Newman in a neighbourhood established by veterans in Saskatoon following the Second World War. He was the third child with two brothers – Greg and Dale, a sister - Leslee, and a dachshund sharing the home.

Larry was predeceased by his parents, and his older brother Greg in 1979, along with grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and others.

He grew up playing ball and hockey and any other sport that came along. He was a naturally talented athlete, a playmaker who excelled on ice and on the field. On the golf course, he brought home a trophy for a hole-in-one on the golf course at Waskesiu.

He was kind and friendly and could talk with anyone, anytime, anywhere. We teased him that he was Mom’s favourite, because he was the one who would come home and tell her all about his day. He made friends at school, on teams and wherever life took him.

He carried many traits that he learned at home into his adult life. With his Dad and brother, he built a house. His Newman green thumb grew luxurious plants. He loved the outdoors and watched the sky – sunrises and sunsets, the moon and stars. He also looked to the sky for birds and planes alike. He was methodical, patient and had a “place for everything and kept everything in its place.” He repaired things. He contributed equally around the house. He kept his vehicles immaculate. If he had to choose, he picked cats over dogs.

After high school, Larry got a job with Coca-Cola where he stayed for most of his working life. After he retired, he worked at Greenbryre golf course for a few years. His jobs gave him another chance to make friends from around the province.

Since 2000 Larry shared his love with his wife Brenda (Chestolowski). He and Brenda travelled and vacationed around the world, exploring countries, learning histories and making new friends. They cherished memories made on beaches and boats, castles and cabanas.

Larry came full circle when he and Brenda moved to Montgomery Place. With family nearby, he was a loving uncle to Leslee and Dale’s children and a loving great-uncle to their children. He never visited without fruit snacks or classic 5 cent candy in his pocket to share.

Larry made the world a better and brighter place. We deeply grieve his absence. There will be an open mic for anyone wanting to share memories of Larry at a Celebration of Life. Join us on Sunday, October 25 from 2-5 pm at the Gordie Howe Event Centre, the building overlooking the football field, at 1525 Avenue P South in Saskatoon.

In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to the SPCA.
