Leigh Raeburn

It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Leigh on August 29/26.

Leigh is now reunited with his beloved wife of 52 years, Sharon; mother and father Hazel and Russell Raeburn; his sisters Ruth and her husband Jim Packard and Sandra and her husband Guy Moreau.

Leigh leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Michelle (Dean) Polowick and Jaymie (Stu) Zary, both of Saskatoon; three grandchildren, who made every day special for him, Alyssa and Brayden Polowick and Autumn Zary. He is also survived by many extended family and friends.

Leigh was raised on a farm in Gainsborough, Saskatchewan. After completing high school, he moved to Moose Jaw to attend Saskatchewan Technical Institute where he studied Civil Engineering Technology. He eventually settled in Saskatoon where his career of 35 years with the department of highways allowed him to travel all over Saskatchewan which he loved. After retiring from highways Leigh worked as a consultant for HJR asphalt for a number of years.

He married the love of his life, Sharon, on August 5, 1972 and they started a family soon after. His family was his priority and source of joy. Throughout his life Leigh was very involved in sports. Curling, and fast pitch, first playing ball himself and later coaching his daughter’s community baseball teams. He was an avid golfer and was still golfing two days before his passing. The past few years he really enjoyed watching his grandchildren play their favorite sports like hockey, soccer and baseball.

In their retirement years Sharon and Leigh enjoyed travelling together. Some of their favorite trips included; The Yukon, annual trips south for the winter and family trips to Waskesiu each summer.

Leigh will be missed greatly but remebered and celebrated daily by his family. Leigh would not want tears but only celebrations for his life well lived.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday September 12, 2:30pm in The Columbarium at St John’s Cathedral (816 Spadina Crescent East). A private family internment to follow immediately after the ceremony.
