Leonard (Len) Fitzgerald passed away peacefully in his sleep surrounded by family on Tuesday, September 29th, 2026 at the age of 103 years.
He is survived by his children Danny (Ruth), Gerry, Mary Orr(Terry), Joe (Cathy), Tom, (Gaylene Friess), Maureen Harrison (Terry), Kathy Saretzky (Jim), Paul (Andrew Appledore), 15 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Len was predeceased by his beloved wife Patricia, (Pat) grandsons Aiden and Graham, his parents Tom and Mary Fitzgerald, brothers Frank, James, and Bernard and sisters Ella, Kathleen, Theresa, and Eileen along with many other relatives.
Len was born and raised on the family farm at Thrasher, SK on June 28, 1923. He was a hard worker and had a keen interest in carpentry. This became the foundation of a long career in building. Len moved to Saskatoon in September of 1945 where he found work as an apprentice carpenter. A few years later he formed L.E. Fitzgerald Construction. In 1950 Len met Pat, they married on June 30, 1951 and enjoyed over 60 years of marriage until mom passed away in 2012. Together they raised their family all the while running a successful business out of their home. They enjoyed travel to many destinations and wintered in Weslaco, TX for many years. In his retirement, Len enjoyed working on their acreage, travel and golf.
Dad lived a good full life celebrating his 103rd birthday last June. He was a devout Catholic with a deep and abiding faith and great devotion to God and the saints. Mom and dad joined St Philip Neri Parish when it was formed and remained members for the rest of their lives. They served on parish council, and were communion distributors for several years. Dad worked extremely hard and with great commitment to provide for his large family. He lived everyday of his life with purpose and determination right to the end.
Rest in peace, dad.
