Lilian Dorothy Kalinocka

1929 — June 20, 2023

It is with mixed emotions we send our beloved mother Lilian into the loving arms of her Savior Jesus Christ.  Lilian left this world for destination Heaven June 20th, 2023 at the age of 94 years.  She was predeceased by her loving husband of 20 years, William (Bill) Kalinocka (aka Willie).  She leaves to mourn and remember with great love her five children: Joan Payne; Jackie Tennent (Colin);  Samaya Chase; Jeffrey Gracewood (Debbie) and Janice Roy (Darryn).  In addition, she will always be remembered by her 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Lilian also has numerous nieces and nephews in Canada, England, Australia and New Zealand who remember her with great affection.

Lil was born January 6th, 1929 in London (Hornsey), England.  She was the youngest of 13 children, who along with Willie and her parents are waiting for their heavenly reunion.  Lil came to Canada at the very young age of 17 to visit her sister.  She met and  married Edward (Ted) Gracewood and together they raised five children.  She was a home-maker while the children were young but joined the employed world as a Ward Clerk at Royal University Hospital where she worked for over  23 years.  After her divorce she met and married Willie. They shared 20 wonderful years before his passing in 2000.

Lil was an active member of St. Matthew’s Anglican Church where she enjoyed bible studies, being a member of the Vestry, serving on the kitchen committee, bake sale fund raisers and the knitting circle.  Lil also enjoyed reading, bowling and card games with close friends.  She will be missed by all who were privileged to know her.

The family wishes to express our heartfelt gratitude to Lucy Meikle, her best friend and confidante—their bond was special and Lil considered her a special sister. Thanks also to the staff at Royal University Hospital  4th Floor Surge Unit, particularly Paula and Jae,  for their tender care during Lil’s last days.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a tribute in Lil’s memory to St. Matthew’s Anglican Church Memorial Fund.  The service to celebrate Lilian’s life will be held June 30th, 2023 at 2:00 pm from St. Matthew’s Anglican Church, 135—109th Street (Sutherland), Saskatoon, with The Reverend Karen Walter officiating.
