Lorne Stuart Crocker, builder, adventurer, sports fanatic, loyal friend, and cherished brother, uncle, and cousin died on January 29, 2026.
Lorne mastered work/life balance and the art of experiencing life to the fullest for 77 years before either became ‘the thing to do’. In addition to Saskatoon, he lived in Snow Lake MB, Elliot Lake ON, Val D’Or QC, Matagami QC, Flin Flon MB, Whitehorse YK, and Ladysmith BC. He began his working career in underground mines and then became a journeyman carpenter. He built his own log cabin in Whitehorse and was part of a carpentry crew that built Canadian style homes in Japan – including one for a doctor that had 8 garages. He was an intelligent hard worker but also a charismatic and interesting person.
His lifelong passion for reading and sports were matched only by his deep-rooted dislike of a few select sports teams. NB: No ‘in memoriam’ donations to the Bruins please.
Lorne was lucky. He had a few close calls over the years – several to do with heights. While working on the Vet College, he fell several stories – and was saved by his tool belt catching on the scaffolding and stopping his fall.
He was a good friend and will be missed by his buddies as he remained close to them throughout the years.
He is survived by his older sister Elaine, younger brother Neil, nieces and nephews, and a number of cousins who live all across Canada.
Please remember Lorne in the way that best fits your relationship with him – go for a walk in nature, swing a hammer, chop some wood, plant a tree, have a smoke, raise a glass, watch curling/baseball/hockey/football or golf. I am very sure that Lorne’s last words were Go Habs Go.
