Lowell Ross McLaren

June 13, 1955 – July 21, 2022

Lowell Ross McLaren, husband of beloved wife, Denise Zentner of Saskatoon, passed away at home surrounded by family, on July 21, 2022, at the age of 67 years.  Lowell was born in Yorkton, Sask.

With an entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for music, Lowell lived, worked, played, learned, created, and performed in Langenburg, Calgary, Rocky Mountain House, Japan, Australia and Saskatoon.  He had a mind for business, with music in his heart.  As his last stop, and full circle, he retuned to Saskatchewan and gradually found joy and inspiration in the unique and special Saskatoon music community, including the bands, Sound Wave, Spectacle, Ernest Ernie’s Panfried Blues, Spectacle Duo, and the Concert and Auxiliary Bands, as well as the Joy of Vox Choir.  Lowell discovered his own and the community heartbeat with his own drumbeat.  He was home.  Lowell was known and loved as the Barefoot Drummer.

As an entrepreneur, Lowell dedicated many years to the restaurant business in Calgary and Rocky Mountain House, worked tirelessly as an investor, and eventually initiated an Internet Provider company in Australia.  With an English Degree and a love of literature, Lowell published as a talented writer, attended the Banff School of Fine Arts, and taught English in Japan.  In every role and challenge, Lowell made a lasting impression with his very personalized sense of humor and notorious storytelling.

Lowell loved people, travel and cooking.  He developed friendships, with people and dogs, and created lasting relationships all over the world.  During this past year, Lowell received heartwarming messages of love and respect from so many people he met along the way. He inspired and encouraged.  Lowell and Denise travelled together beginning with their honeymoon in Cuba and continued their love of travel by exploring the people, culture and food of Vietnam, Brazil, Jamaica, Mexico, Costa Rica, Eastern Canada, Southern States, Australia, and most recently his sacred Acres.  New Zealand is next.  Lowell now has an opportunity to embark on a new journey, and a well -deserved rest without the struggle and pain of cancer.  Lowell also loved his furry friends, Sam, Erica and Maxx who travelled the world with him, as his faithful companions.

Besides his loving wife, Lowell was loved and will be sorely missed by his siblings, Randy, Jacki and Jan, Uncle Bev and Auntie Rae, many close cousins, and Denise’s numerous, special and kind family members.  Lowell has so many precious friends, who will dearly miss him in their daily lives.

Lowell is predeceased by his parents, Ross and Beryl McLaren.

We love you Lowell!
