Luba Newman

Luba (Lou) Newman of Lethbridge, Alberta passed away peacefully the evening of Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the age of 87 years.
Lou was born on April 29, 1939, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. She lived on a farm at Ceepee, Saskatchewan until the family moved into Langham, Saskatchewan for Lou to attend Grade One.

Lou worked in Langham at Gordie's Cafe until she finished her Grade 12 year of school. After that she applied for a switchboard operator with Sask Tel. Sask Tel is where she met her future husband, Murray Newman while living in Kindersley, Saskatchewan. Kindersley, is where Murray and Lou welcomed their two beautiful children, Carolyn and Cameron.

The family of four moved to Wadena, Saskatchewan where they built a new home and made many lifelong friends. After spending four years in Wadena, they moved to Moosomin, Saskatchewan where they built a beautiful life for 42 years.

Lou worked at the Sears order desk and the Moosomin Drug Mart. Lou loved working and made every effort to make the customers a priority. She loved to meet and visit with everyone that entered the store.

Lou was also known for her volunteering. She made many pots of Cabbage Borscht and Saskatoon pies for Soup and Sandwich days at the church, she loved to go to the nursing home and help set the ladies hair for the week, she sang in the church choir, served on the Hospital Auxiliary and was a member of the Kinettes club.

Lou became a Grandma in 1993. She was such a proud, loving and most special Grandma. Lou did everything for and with all the boys, Kayden, Dylan, Kyler, Eric and Bryden.

She read stories, sang nursery rhymes, cuddled, went for walks, baked yummy cookies, played Rescue Heroes, dinosaurs and was even a goalie in street hockey. Lou was Bryden's biggest fan when he would take her out to all his Friday games in Warner. She cheered the loudest and was a proud spectator. Her grandchildren were her everything. She lit up when around them and told everyone how wonderful they were!

Lou lost Murray in 2013. Her life changed quite a bit after that. She missed him dearly but her inner strength began to show. Lou had open heart surgery in 2014. She was a rock during this time and showed such courage and faith. Shortly after her surgery, it became apparent that family was too far from Lou. She sold her home of 42 years and bought a home in Lethbridge to be closer to Cam and his family. It brought many years of family time together and security of having loved ones close.

Lou loved her little place in Lethbridge. She met many wonderful friends that she enjoyed walks with, having tea on her beautiful deck, going to Jammers and out for coffee. She felt blessed!

Lou became weak in October 2025. Her body was slowly becoming ill. She spent most of her days in the hospital battling organ weakness. In July of 2026, Lou moved into Edith Cavelle Care Home where she spent her final days. She loved the visits from all the family and friends while she was there. Lou grew tired and was ready to go and be at peace. She fell asleep with family beside her and is now resting with the Good Lord above.

Lou is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Carolyn. Carolyn's sons, Dylan, (Danielle), baby James and Eric. Her son, Cam, (Debbie), their sons, Kayden, (Alexandra),Kyler, (Emily), Bryden, (Syd) and her beloved Grand Dog Digger. Lou is survived by her brothers Eli and Sam and sister Verna (Bill) and Sister-In-Law, Sharon,(Walter) many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 26 at 2:00 p.m. at Saskatoon Funeral Home, 338 4th Avenue North, Saskatoon.
