SKELTON, Lynda Marion (nee McKinnon)
1944 – 2023
Lynda passed away peacefully on January 1, 2023 with family at her side in Saskatoon.
Born and raised in Regina, she graduated from Central Collegiate and completed a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, as well as a certificate through the U. of S. in Regina that led to a Teacher Librarian position at O’Neill High School.
In her youth, Lynda worked as a lifeguard in Regina and with one of the first generations of computers in Toronto. She later enjoyed working at Georgian College Library in Barrie and the Regina Public Library.
In 1969, she married the love of her life Gary. They had two children Richard and Katherine.
After living in Windsor, Barrie, and Orillia, Lynda and Gary returned to Saskatchewan. Starting in Saskatoon, they moved to Lanigan where they owned and operated Lanigan Drugs while raising their family.
They later moved to Regina, Weyburn, and eventually North Battleford where they owned and operated Inter-City Pharmacy, for which Lynda did the bookkeeping. In 2011, they retired to Saskatoon.
Lynda always tried to make the world a better place through volunteering and giving back to her community, including working on the building committee for the new Knox United Church in Lanigan. Her kindness, determination, and optimistic outlook on life inspired and brought joy to those around her.
Cheering on the Roughriders, travelling, bird watching, visiting museums and galleries, and dining out were regular hobbies, but Lynda enjoyed spending time with friends and family most of all.
She is survived by her husband, Gary; children, Richard and Katherine (Alexander); and grandchildren, Audrey and Benjamin; sister, Eleanor (James); and a larger extended family.
Lynda was predeceased by her parents, Alexander and Audrey; and brother, Robert.
She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered.
Donations in memory of Lynda may be made to a charity of your choice.
A Celebration of Life will take place at 10:00am Friday June 9, 2023 at Saskatoon Funeral Home.
