Margaret Hildebrandt (nee Rempel), of house 20 at The Meadows Care Home in Swift Current, SK., went to her eternal home with Jesus, on April 13, 2026 following a brief illness. Margaret was born to Bernhard and Maria Rempel on May 14, 1929 at her home in Hamburgh, Sk., the eleventh of twelve children. Growing up on a farm in a large house with 11 siblings meant sharing housework and doing outside chores. Mom loved to cook, work in the garden and take care of the animals, but left learning to sew up to her sisters. At school in Hamburgh, she was an average student, but excelled in sports, especially softball and track. In 1945, when Mom was 16, her family moved to the village of Rhineland and a new farm. As she made new friends, she was welcomed onto the local women's softball team, travelling with her brothers to nearby villages playing at sports days, but not before housework, barn chores and gardening were done. There was no homework for Margaret because her culture dictated that school ended after grade 8. Mom's family went through a difficult time when her Dad died in 1946, when she was just 17. It was during this time that she met our Dad, Bill Hildebrandt, who shared her love of sports, especially softball. They were married on August 14, 1949 in a brand new garage on Dad's home yard. Their honeymoon was a walk to the other end of Rhineland, where they made their first home at Grandma Rempel's place. As children were born to them, Mom and Dad also began their walk of faith. Through the ministry of the local church, they both came to know Jesus as their Lord and Saviour and gave their lives to Him. Mom, hungry to know more about her new found freedom, studied the Bible diligently through radio Bible classes and Bible studies at church. She became actively involved in many aspects of church ministry. Prayer was a vital part of Mom's life, to the extent that she taught all of her 5 children to pray about everything. In 1974, Mom and Dad moved into Swift Current. Mom's gift for baking and all things food, landed her a job at the Co-op in food services and later at the Horseshoe Hotel, also baking and catering. They attended Open Bible Church where they found rich fellowship, and, yes, Mom served in the kitchen, doing what she loved best. Mom leaves behind two daughters and three sons. They are: Charlotte (Don Friesen); Linda (Harvey Seib); Jerry (Debbie Gader); Doug (Shirlee Hettinger); Derryl (Darlene Rogers). She also leaves 12 grandchildren: Kirk Fehr (Melissa); Tanya Fehr Haubrich (Brent); Justin Fehr (Caitlyn); Joel Friesen (Nicole); Tyler Friesen (Amanda); Jana Friesen Okus; Jennifer Hildebrandt Skazyk (Jason); Erin Hildebrandt Rodin (Pete); Kristin Hildebrandt Rusu; Kaila Hildebrandt (Kiyomi); Karli Hildebrandt; Jessica Hildebrandt Rohrke (Aldin Goertzen); 21 great grandchildren; 4 step great grandchildren; 1 brother, Frank Rempel; 2 brothers in law; 1 sister in law, many nieces and nephews, her friends at The Meadows, and her dear friend, Gene. We wish to thank the staffs of Cypress House and The Meadows for their great care for Mom. Both were safe places where she could make friends and live out her days in comfort. We also want to thank the medical teams in Swift Current Hospital, in Moose Jaw Hospital, and Swift Current Ambulance Service for their care and concern during Mom's last hours. There will be a public visitation and sharing of memories on Sunday April 19,2026 at 6:00 pm. The Funeral Service for Margaret is Monday April 20,2026, 2:00 pm with a lunch to follow. Both events will occur at The Church of the Open Bible, (290 19 Ave NE in Swift Current) There was a private family interment at Hillcrest Cemetery on Monday Morning.
