Marguerite Louise Zunich

Marguerite Louise Zunich (née Milman) passed peacefully in her sleep on August 27, 2026, at Sherbrooke Community Centre, at the age of 97.

Marguerite will be lovingly remembered by her family: Debbie (Dennis), Tara, Landon, Aidan and Jada; Kyle (Renae), Matthew (Becky), Mackenzie and Quintin; Wanda (Cameron), Denise and Jorda; Clinton (Kerrie), Jasmine, Tamara and Dennielle; Colleen Milman, Jacey (Devin) Kyler and Kaden; Kim (Trevor), Tanner, Lukas and Sydney; and Rick (Carly), Jett and Cruz.

She was predeceased by her husband, Edward Zunich; her brother, Lloyd Milman; sister-in-law, Elaine Milman; niece, Colleen Wicks and her husband, Norman; and nephew, Wayne Milman.

Marguerite was born on Christmas Day in North Battleford, Saskatchewan, and was raised on the family farm in Richard, where she also attended school. She often reminisced about the dances she attended in and around town and the wonderful memories she made there. From a young age, Marguerite had a great love of horses, especially Babe and Dobbin, the horses she cherished during her younger years.

As a young adult, Marguerite began her career with CIBC, working in Richard, Prince Albert, Edmonton and Calgary. In 1965, she married Edward Zunich and moved to an acreage outside Calgary. There, she and Ed enjoyed having horses, which remained a particular joy for Marguerite. She continued working with CIBC before spending 15 years with the Rose Hallis Agency in Calgary.

In 1991, Marguerite and Ed moved to Saskatoon, where she worked for three years in the gift shop at the Delta Bessborough. Following Ed's passing in 1997, Marguerite remained in Saskatoon and continued to live independently for nearly 30 years.

Marguerite took great pride in her home and gardens. Her yard and patio were always filled with beautiful flowers, and her home was graced by the animals she cherished, especially her beloved cats and dogs. In her earlier years, she loved entertaining family and preparing special dishes for those she loved.

Marguerite will be remembered for her vibrant personality, cheerful spirit and positive outlook on life. She brought countless smiles to those around her and had a wonderful way of making people laugh. She was known for saying things loudly that perhaps weren't meant to be shared with the whole room-never realizing that everyone could hear her! These memories will always bring a smile to those who knew and loved her.

Marguerite was very social and enjoyed meeting and visiting with people, although her hearing loss sometimes made this challenging. She took part in a bowling league in her early years in Saskatoon. She found pleasure in paint-by-numbers, doing puzzles, shopping for Christmas gifts and searching for new plants to add to her gardens. For the past 12 years, her constant companion was her beloved cat, Ruby, whom she adored.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Canaday and his staff for the many years of compassionate care they provided to Marguerite and for looking after her health throughout the years. Many thanks also go to Dale and the staff at Primrose Chateau for making it Marguerite's home for the past several years. We are grateful as well to Andrea and the home care nurses at the Chateau, who cared for Marguerite so kindly and whom she looked forward to visiting with every morning.Also the amazing care from Saskatoon home care nurses who cared for her daily.

Finally, our deepest thanks go to the amazing staff and wonderful caregivers at Sherbrooke Kinsmen Village for the exceptional care and kindness they provided to Marguerite during her final month.

Marguerite leaves behind a lifetime of memories, laughter and love. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marguerite's name to the SPCA.

A private family interment took place on Monday, August 31, at the Maymont Cemetery.
