Maria Rosa Eilinger passed away at age 92 on August 19, 2026, after an extended illness.

Mom was born April 22, 1934, in Switzerland. She immigrated to Canada in 1961 after marrying Leo Eilinger and settling in North Battleford, SK. The family moved to Saskatoon in 1964.

Maria is survived by her two daughters, Elisabeth, and Rita, and Rita’s son Simon (Devon). She is also survived by one sister and two brothers, and numerous nieces and nephews. Maria was predeceased by her husband Leo in January 2012, and by one sister and four brothers.

Mom worked for her father in Switzerland, helping run his business, and assisting at home with younger brothers and sisters. She was adventurous, traveling by boat to New York in 1959 to work as a Nanny for a year, before returning to Switzerland. It was after this that she and Dad connected, while he was in Switzerland visiting his family. They married in Switzerland in 1961, and after a short honeymoon, settled in North Battleford, SK where Dad had a home and was already established as a Baker. Their daughters were both born in North Battleford.

Mom loved to garden, as did Dad, and together they created an extraordinarily beautiful park-like yard that was appreciated by everyone. Mom continued to live in the family home for about four years after Dad passed, but realized she would like to have some company and moved into the Bentley. There she could live independently yet have someone cook for her so she had more time to enjoy hobbies like puzzles and reading, and yes, gardening. She was well-known for having the best flowers on her balcony, overwintering her beloved geraniums. She often shared stories about her youth, growing up with so many siblings, and the closeness they shared.

After suffering a life-altering stroke in late August 2025, Mom spent two months in hospital before moving to St Joseph’s Care Home in Saskatoon. And what a blessing that was! Her excellent care from the care staff and the resident Sisters of St. Joseph, delicious food, and beautiful gardens, all contributed to her well-being. Because of the stroke, she had lost her mobility, and speech was sometimes difficult. Mom suffered from additional strokes in mid August of this year, and passed away six days later.

The funeral mass will be held on Friday, Sept. 18, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at St Philip Neri Parish, 1902 Munroe Ave S, Saskatoon. Internment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation (www.heartandstroke.ca) would be appreciated.
