Our mother and grandmother, Marie Laberge, passed away on May 15, 2025 surrounded by her family in Saskatoon, SK.
Marie was born to Robert and Elizabeth (Reidt) Schultz on April 26, 1928 in Chellwood. Upon completing grade 8 Marie was ready to try something different. She was employed at a variety of jobs but enjoyed working as a nurse aide at the two different TB sanitarium. On November 8, 1954 she married her sweetheart of 10 years Romeo Laberge at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Prince Albert. At the age of 50, Marie decided to go back to school. She attended Sask Polytech in Saskatoon taking the Meat Cutting course. Upon completion of the program she worked as a meat cutter at the Leoville IGA for 8 years.
Marie enjoyed volunteering. One of the organizations were the hospital auxiliary in both Leoville and Shellbrook. She was actively involved with being liturgy and Eucharist minister in St. Therese and St Agatha RC church. Marie, especially enjoyed bringing communion to the shut ins.
Marie enjoyed her retirement years – especially – time with her fellow “Seniors” playing cards, bingo and going on gambling bus trips. She, also, enjoyed traveling and seeing different parts of Canada, England, Europe and various places in the USA with Romeo and later with friends.
Marie is survived by her daughters Cecile, Anne, Suzanne (Lionel), son in law Monty; her sister Rita; her grandchildren: Zackery (Brittany) Anthony & Harper, Mikayla, Allyss (Fraser) Kyrie, Hope, Whitney(Dustin) Kosten & Korben , Laurette(Cody) Kasen, Everly & Dylan, Tyler(Lenaya) Aliyak & Nash, Paul and Desiree(Joel) Miyah; her nieces and nephews.
Marie was proceeded by her husband Romeo; daughter Therese; her sons Paul, Leo and Marcel; her late brothers Fred and John; her sisters Lydia, Emma, Etta and Dot.
A memorial mass for Marie was on Saturday, May 24th at 10:30 at St. Therese RC Church in Leoville. Her final resting place will be at the Leoville Cemetery beside her husband and children. Fellowship will be at the Leoville community hall following the mass.
