Marie Yvonne Martens

October 12, 1940 — October 29, 2024

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Marie Yvonne Martens (nee Castonguay) on October 29, 2024 at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon with family at her side. Marie was born on October 12, 1940 in Rosetown , SK, the third of four Castonguay children. She was a devoted spouse, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Marie is pre-deceased by her parents Florida Castonguay (nee Toupin) and Joseph Castonguay of Rosetown, SK, her sister Florence Diduck (Steve) of Winnipeg, MB, brother Edmond and sister-in-law Norma Castonguay of Drumheller, AB and nephew Neil Diduck of Winnipeg, MB.

She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Peter Martens, their children Brian Martens, Debra Krawchuk (Rick), Lisa Tall (Dave), and Cara Martens (Andrew Ashton), sister Lucy Oneto (Tom) of Danville, CA, brother-in-law Steve Diduck (Winnipeg), ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mom's family moved to Saskatoon in 1959, where she met a handsome banker named Peter. Marie and Peter were married in Saskatoon on Oct 12, 1962 (after harvest was completed, of course). Brian and Deb were born in Saskatoon before Dad was transferred to Regina in 1964, where Lisa and Cara were born. The family accepted a transfer back to Saskatoon in 1981, where Mom and Dad and the three girls and their families have resided since.

Mom was known for her unwavering love, kindness, and support. She dedicated her life to her family, always putting others before herself. Her warm smile and gentle spirit brought comfort and joy to those around her. She was an exceptional woman, making many deep friendships through work, Holy Spirit parish, volunteer work, and CWL. She loved watching old movies, especially westerns. Playing cards was one of her favorite past times and she spent many hours playing and laughing with her grandkids. Peter and Marie enjoyed years of travelling with their fifth wheel and taking trips abroad including a trip to the Holy Land. Most recently, Mom took up quilting and made the most beautiful and thoughtful quilts for her friends and family. These pieces of art will be cherished for years to come. Mom will be deeply missed but forever remembered for her love, strength and grace.

Marie's family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Royal University Hospital Ward 6300 who were absolutely tremendous in mom's last month of care.

In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of your choice in Mom's name would be graciously accepted.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Thursday, November 14, 2024 at Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Parish (114 Kingsmere Place, Saskatoon) with reception to follow in the Holy Spirit Hall.
