Marlene passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 27, 2025 in Saskatoon after a lengthy illness. She was born on May 8, 1935, the first child of Len and Kathleen Pickell. As a CPR station agent family, she grew up in several towns in SK, graduating high school in Cadillac. Marlene went on to study nursing in Saskatoon, becoming a Registered Nurse and starting her career at the Foam Lake hospital. She married her husband David Kimber in 1959 and moved to a ranch near Abbey, SK. There she raised her 3 sons, Kevin, Perry, and Allan. In addition to assisting on the ranch, she grew a wonderful garden, enjoyed reading, crafts, playing cards, time with her kitties, and volunteering at local community organizations. Marlene relaxed by playing the piano or enjoying a peaceful cup of tea. After a 25-year absence, she recertified as a Registered Nurse and returned to work in Melfort where she became head nurse of Geriatrics. In retirement she loved sharing time with family and enjoyed spending the winters in Arizona with a group of wonderful friends she developed there.
Marlene was generous, supportive, and loving, which was lavished on her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her caring and hard-working nature will be missed by all. She is survived by her husband David (66 years), her sons Kevin (Valerie), Perry (Kathy), and Allan (Linda). Marlene has 8 grandchildren David (Susan), Brendon (Anna), Callan, Jadyn, Sophia, Evan, Christie (Zeke), Alyssa (Max); and 6 great-grandchildren Owen, Nora, Audrey, Miles, Zoe, and Cade. She is also survived by her brother Leonard, and her sister Kathleen.
The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you for the care provided by the staff at Diamond House in Warman and Stensrud Lodge in Saskatoon and to Tara Meissner for her amazing and tireless work as Marlene’s health care advocate.
There will be a private celebration of Marlene's life. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society.
