Matilde Lopez (nee Martinez James), 91, passed away peacefully on January 13th, 2025, in Saskatoon, SK.
Born on March 14th, 1933, in Seville, Spain, Matilde's life was marked by resilience, adventure and a deep love for family and the world around her. She spent her early years in Llerena, Spain, during the Spanish Civil War, an experience that shaped her strength and compassion.
In her youth, Matilde met her future husband, Jose. Together, they started their new life in Chicago in 1958 and then moved to Saskatoon in 1963, where Matilde continued to raise her children and create a warm and loving home.
Matilde was a vibrant and active individual with a passion for yoga, world travel, birdwatching, antiquing and Canadian literature. She was also a devoted animal lover who found joy in caring for creatures of all kinds.
Matilde is survived by her children, Fernando, Julia and George; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her eldest daughter, Nina; and husband, Jose.
As per Matilde's wishes, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the MS Society of Canada or the SPCA in her memory.
Her legacy of love and curiosity will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
