Maureen Anderson (nee Bowler)

Maureen's family is saddened to announce her peaceful passing on Thursday, September 17, 2026 at St. Joseph's Home, surrounded by family. Maureen was born in Dodsland, SK and spent her early years in nearby Dewar Lake, SK before moving to Tichfield, SK in 1945. Music was a huge part of Maureen's life - she attended many concerts and once famously kissed Johnny Cash onstage in the late 1950s. Maureen continued buying albums over the years, amassing quite an eclectic collection that spanned all genres.

Maureen moved to Saskatoon in 1958 and trained at the Marvel Beauty School. She was a hairdresser in Saskatoon for several years until she moved to Los Angeles in 1963. While in LA, she worked for Sunset News Company, a major book and magazine wholesaler. As computers were just starting to emerge, Maureen learned how to operate them, working in data entry. In 1969, she came home to Saskatoon and landed a job at City Hall - her extensive data entry experience made her stand out from others. She continued working for the city until she retired in 2003.

As Maureen never had kids, her nephew Blair and niece Rhonda were her 'kids' and she was forever known as "the cool aunt"! She was fashion conscious in her younger years and even until the end, she dressed smart and wore red glasses. She loved getting her nails done too!

Maureen met and married Terry Anderson in 1978. They enjoyed travelling abroad and into the US as well as across Saskatchewan and Alberta visiting family. In the early 80s, they bought a fifth wheel and camped all over the place! This led them to eventually purchasing a lakefront cabin at Osze Beach at Wakaw Lake, where they enjoyed many summers. They also had their favourite dog, Angel, as their faithful sidekick for many years. Maureen also loved birds and the sound of her budgies was often heard throughout their house.

Unfortunately, Terry's health eventually declined, but Maureen rolled up her sleeves and became his full-time caregiver. They rode the bus (and later Access Transit) several times a week to St. Paul's Hospital for treatments. They were never apart and did everything together, always trying to find the best deal on something or the neatest Halloween or Christmas decoration to entertain the great nieces and nephews with.

After Terry's passing in 2012, Maureen made some time for herself and travelled on bus tours to see the Blue Jays, the polar bears in Churchill (twice), Las Vegas for curling, a Hawaiian cruise, and an Alaskan cruise where she saw grizzly bears. She even had dinner with Garth Brooks! Maureen also travelled to Sheffield, England several times to visit family and always hoped to make it back one last time, but sadly, never made it. That said, she was a staunch Royal watcher, having seen many members of the Royal Family travelling to various parts of Saskatchewan to do so. She also loved Coronation Street and looked forward to watching it with a cup of tea after supper. Maureen and her mother, Mary, were also heavily involved in IODE (Imperial Order Daughters of the Empire) in Asquith, with Mary receiving a Life Membership in 1973.

Maureen also loved to bake and cook and was often sharing recipes. Her pizza bush pie mix is a family favourite and is still being enjoyed by her great nieces and nephews to this day. She was also crafty and loved to knit and crochet.

Maureen was a loving and devoted wife to Terry, who sadly passed away in 2012. She is survived by her sister Margaret Duquette, nephew Blair (Sharlene) Duquette; daughter Shayla (Steven Hauck), son Derek (Hailey and Levi), niece Rhonda (Gerald) Tornato; son Jordan (Katie and Winston), and daughter Shelby Belland (Jake). She is also survived by Terry's children Brent (Danette) Anderson; Darin (Jean) Anderson, son Jayce and daughter Janelle; Shawn (Greg) Goddu, son Corey (Kelsie) and daughter Shandee (Tyler Gibbons, Hannah and Isabella); and Shannon (Bob) Harms, daughters Ashley and Emily. Maureen is predeceased by her parents, Stan and Mary (Palmer) Bowler, her brothers Ken and Keith (Fran) and brother-in-law Marcel Duquette. She is also fondly remembered by her many relatives in Sheffield, England, especially her cousin Paula Helliwell, whom she conversed with often until she was unable to in recent years.

The family would like to sincerely thank all the staff at St. Joseph's Home for the exceptional care Maureen received over the past 3 years.

A private family interment will take place prior to a Celebration of Life on Tuesday, September 29, 2026. The Celebration of Life will take place at 2:00pm at the Edwards Family Centre, 333 4th Ave N, Saskatoon, SK. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Paul's Hospital Foundation, STARS Ambulance, Cosmopolitan Industries or a charity of your choice.
