STACK, MAUREEN ISABELLE (nee McRae)
1949 - 2026
Maureen Stack passed away peacefully on February 24, 2026 at Circle Drive Special Care Home.
She is survived by her husband, Tom Stack, and their four daughters: Sarah, Jane (Curtis), Elizabeth (Brian), and Katherine (Marc) and her brother John. Maureen's five grandchildren, Henri, Matthew, Levi, Oskar, Lydia, and Harriet, have years of fun memories with Grandma, including at the lake and at the house in Palm Springs, where she could always be counted on to play Lego, ooh and ah at every picture drawn and every story told, and set a general example of how to properly spoil one's grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, Bill and Mildred (nee Sundback) McRae, and sister Marion.
Maureen was born on February 9, 1949 at the hospital in Meadow Lake. Her parents were living in the nearby village of Rapid View, where they operated a small convenience store and café. They moved to Meadow Lake in 1952, where Maureen attended Westview Elementary School and later graduated from Carpenter High School.
She completed a secretarial course at Saskatoon Business College, her Certificate of Professional Cooking from Kelsey Institute in Saskatoon, and finally her BA in Psychology from the University of Saskatchewan.
Maureen was known for a sharp mind and a love of bringing people together. She showed love through food and time spent in the kitchen. A devoted fan of crosswords and games, Maureen was an avid bridge and mahjong player who cherished the lively friendships formed around the card table.
She was an enthusiastic camper and was the driving force behind an ambitious 5-week-long family camping trip to the Maritimes. She also enjoyed ping pong, golf, and cycling. Later in life, she learned to swim and even went on to compete in triathlons.
The family is grateful to Maureen's friends, especially Joni, Nancy, Karla, Louise, and neighbours Brian & Sherry, who continued to visit her as her health declined. Thank you for your many kindnesses.
Thank you also to the care-aids and nurses at Circle Drive Special Care Home who took such good care of Maureen. A special thank you to Kathy Daniels, Maureen's physio and patient advocate, who worked with Maureen for many years.
Maureen will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A Memorial to Celebrate Maureen's life will be held at the Edwards Family Centre, 333 4th Ave. North, on Saturday March 14, 2026 with a formal program to begin at 10:00 am followed by a Reception. Those attending are welcome to use the parking lot across the street at Saskatoon Funeral Home.
