With shattered hearts, we the children announce the death of our beautiful and brave mother Dr. Maureen Tynan, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She passed away gently and peacefully with family at her side at midnight on Thursday, April 28th, 2022.
She is survived by her husband Jim, we 4 children, Pamela (Jeff), Stephanie (Terry), Mark and Jennifer, her 8 grandchildren, 4 great-grandsons and her 2 older brothers.
Mum was born in
Wishaw
,
Scotland
. She was an only daughter with 6 brothers. She and Dad met when they both went to
Glasgow
University
to study dentistry. After graduation, they practised in
Scotland
before sailing to
Canada
in 1966. They both practised in Swift Current. Despite her busy professional and family life, mum also managed to be very involved in community and Catholic church activities. Faith and family were always the centre of our parents’ lives. We moved to
Saskatoon
in 1981 as Dad had accepted a position at the Faculty of Dentistry. Mum returned to private practice. She eventually sold her practice, obtained a Master’s degree and also joined the Faculty. She was elected to the Council of the College of Dental Surgeons of Saskatchewan. Our parents retired to
Victoria
in 2005. Our parents very much enjoyed their years in
Victoria
and we and our children were frequent visitors. Due to mum’s health issues, they returned to
Saskatoon
in 2019. Our lovely mother was always energetic and enthusiastic. She enjoyed a variety of physical activities until she was no longer able to do so. She loved to dance, travel and spend time with friends. When the need arose, our Dad willingly became our mother’s prime caregiver. Dad looked after her at home until her move to Glengarda. He had a folding cot in her room. Our mother’s last lovely smile was when she saw Dad come to her bedside 2 days before her passing.
The family would like to thank Father Geoffrey Young, Dr. Jawed Ahktar, all the wonderful nurses, care partners and staff at Glengarda.
