Merle Lucas

January 20, 1937 — June 12, 2025

Merle Jean Slater was born in Prince Albert, SK on Jan 20 , 1937 and passed away on June 12, 2025. Merle was married to Donald George Lucas in 1959 in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. Merle is survived by her children, Kimberlee Johnson (Gary) of Cambridge Ontario, Mark Lucas (Lise) of Saskatoon, Corinne Sembalerus of Saskatoon, Jennifer Lucas of Vancouver BC, eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Merle was predeceased by her husband Donald, parents Percy and Jean Slater of Prince Albert +SK, brothers Arthur Slater, Alan Slater and wife Wilma, all of Vancouver BC, Barry Slater and wife Sharon of Prince Albert SK as well as son in-law Wayne Sembalerus of Saskatoon.

Merle was employed as a secretary in her early years, then retired and raised her children in Prince Albert until 1971 when the family was relocated to Saskatoon where she spent the rest of her life. Merle was an exceptional homemaker, whose baking, cooking, and vegetable gardening brought joy and nourishment to her family. Her creative spirit shone through in everything she did, from crafting homemade meals to cultivating a beautiful garden.

Merle's love for her family extended to her grandchildren, whom she adored watching play soccer, ball, hockey, and cheerleading. She was immensely proud of her four children and grandchildren and found fulfillment in being a stay-at-home mom, which was all she ever wanted out of life. Her time with her grandchildren provided her with many cherished memories, and her last wish was for their health and happiness.

Merle was always there, not only for her immediate family, but her extended family as well with a hug and a listening ear for those who needed her.

Merle will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
