With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Michael Matthew Dewald on June 30, 2025, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, surrounded by his loved ones at the age of 76. He is survived by his wife, Hilda Baraniuk-Dewald; his daughter, Shantel (Curtis) Kolibab; grandchildren, Kylie and Brock. Hilda's daughters, Jaime (Wade) Adam; grandchildren, Grace and Brynn; Jackie (Jason) Schell; grandchildren, Payton and Keegan; and not to forget his beloved dogs Lacie, Lexie and former fur babies Foxy and Mollie.

Mike was born on June 16, 1949, in Macklin, Saskatchewan, to Philip and Hildagard Dewald. He was the oldest of six boys. Mike was predeceased by his parents, and brother David (Valerie), and will be fondly remembered by brothers Ron (Mary-Jean), Ed (Mary Ann), John (Carmen), Roger (Ellenita) and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mike lived a very fulfilling life and enjoyed family time above all. He spent his childhood in Macklin, Edmonton, Rockfort Bridge, Wetaskiwin and his teenage years in Outlook. In 1974, he married Linda, and they spent 36 years together before her passing in 2011.

Mike worked for Canada Safeway for 37 years. He was a dedicated, loyal, and hardworking employee. Mike had a love for all vehicles and owned too many to count throughout his life - from sports cars to motorhomes. He enjoyed travelling and spending time at Wakaw Lake and later going south to Yuma. Mike loved music and spent many years attending the Craven Country Music Festival. His favorite trip was to Nashville for his 70th birthday.

Mike was a very social person and always looked forward to visiting with family and friends, playing cards or other games, especially cribbage. He also enjoyed watching sports, particularly hockey, football, Blue Jays baseball games and anything his grandkids participated in. For years he was a volunteer usher at SaskTel Centre for the Saskatoon Blades, Saskatchewan Rush, and various concerts.

Mike met Hilda and they married in 2020 after being together for many years prior. Hilda was Mike's best friend and he adored her like no other.

The Funeral Liturgy will be held on Tuesday, July 8 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anne's Parish, 217 Lenore Drive, Saskatoon.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation (P.O. Box 28074 RPO Westgate, Saskatoon, SK., S7N 5V8)

A special thank you to Dr. Scott Willms and all the staff at Royal University Hospital, St. Paul's Hospital and Parkridge Centre who cared for Mike over the past several months.
