Murray Falconer of Squamish, BC passed away July 16, 2025, at a care home in Saskatoon, SK; at the age of 86. He is survived by his common-law wife June Eaton; sisters Norma, Doreen, and Muriel; children Jim (Dawn), Tamara (Erwin), Corey (Kara); grandchildren Hope, Pascience, Nicholas, Ayrton; Alex, Levi, Dylan; Torrey and Reylin. He was preceded in death by his parents Alex and Beatrice, his first wife Lois, and his infant son Christopher. Murray was born on Thursday, October 6, 1938, at the Melfort Union Hospital in Melfort, SK. He worked with his father on the farm through his school years and graduated high school in 1957. He attended the University of Saskatchewan for two years taking technical and community college courses. Murray married Lois Klassen on July 30, 1966. When asked, he once stated he was proud of his three fine children who reached adulthood without becoming dependent on drugs, alcohol, cigarettes or cigars. Maybe he was trying to say they are productive members of society. He enjoyed sports immensely and was recognized as an aggressive player in most sports. Participating in fastball, baseball, football, hockey, track & field, volleyball, basketball, tennis, swimming, golf and curling. He listed some of his fondest memories as: in high school intermural football, he was captain of the team without a quarterback that won every game; while playing fastball, he scored from second base on an infield out; while playing hockey, he scored a ‘hat trick’ on January 8, 1986 with Digger Daves Old Shooters hockey team from Prince Albert; and at age 65 while playing tournament slo-pitch he scored from first base on a single to the outfield. In his working years Murray worked as a surveyor; eight years with the Saskatchewan Dept. of Highways, 3 years 4 months with International Nickel in Thompson, MB; 3 seasons on natural gas pipelines and one season in the oil fields seismic surveying. As a maintenance manager for a year and a quarter at SIAST in Moose Jaw. And fifteen years of surveying, supervising and consulting in the civil engineering and geotechnical testing fields. As things that inspired him, Murray listed: the completion of his first project supervisor job, a heavy haul road north of Bruno, SK, on time, on budget, and with very little material left over; and evaluating and buying mutual funds, stocks and real estate. Murray’s hobbies included electrical work with motors and wiring on the farm; and improving the family home with various projects like a cedar shower, finishing the recreation room in the basement, building a deck on the home in Squamish and working on the numerous trucks he owned over the years. Some of Murray’s favorite places are listed as: the hockey arena, the ball field, his parents’ cabin at Candle Lake, canoeing on Waskesiu Lake, downhill skiing at Whistler, travelling with June, the curling rink and relaxing by any fireplace that’s available.
