Nancy Erin McCrea (Evenson) passed away on Monday June 16, 2025, at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan at the age of 49 after a short, but valiant, battle with cancer.
She is survived by her loving husband, Jim McCrea; her children, Charlie and Cole; her parents, Robert and Paulette Evenson of Tisdale, SK; her brother, Shaun Evenson, and his daughter, Shasta; and her brother, Michael Evenson (Karen Sigfred) and their children, Liam and Madeline, also of Tisdale, SK. She also leaves behind many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends whose lives were touched by her kindness.
She was predeceased by her grandparents on both sides, uncles David and Allan Sutton, and countless pets (dogs, cats, budgies...) who no doubt welcomed her with open arms.
Nancy McCrea (Evenson) was born on April 18, 1976-Easter Sunday-at St. Therese (Union) Hospital in Tisdale, Saskatchewan, to Robert and Paulette Evenson. She was the youngest of three children, with two older brothers, Shaun and Mike. Her father was the local veterinarian, and Nancy developed a strong love for animals early on. Their home was always filled with pets-wanted or not-which suited her perfectly.
Nancy also inherited her mom's love of golf from a young age. Whether tagging along at the course or swinging a club alongside Paulette, she grew to cherish the game for the joy and connection it brought them both.
She attended school in Tisdale and graduated from Tisdale Unit Composite School (TUCS) in 1994. Her school years were filled with close friendships, ringette, beloved pets, family trips to Manitou Beach, and countless joyful memories.
Nancy moved to Saskatoon to attend the University of Saskatchewan, earning a degree in Environmental Science with a minor in Plant Ecology in 1999. She found her passion working in environmental remediation, a career that took her across Saskatchewan and into Alberta-work she deeply enjoyed.
In 2003, Nancy married her love, Jim McCrea, and the two made their home in Saskatoon. Their daughter, Charlie, was born in 2007, a beautiful addition to their growing family. In 2009, they welcomed their son, Cole, who completed their family with his quiet charm. They spent several happy years in Aberdeen, Saskatchewan, before returning to Saskatoon in 2018.
Nancy took great joy in supporting her children's passions. She especially loved spending time with Charlie's horse, Dude-whether cheering them on at riding competitions or simply being around the barn, it brought her peace and pride in equal measure.
Nancy devoted herself to raising her children with love, grace, and fierce dedication. In 2023, once her children were older, she joined the team at Rumley Periodontics, where she brought her warmth and work ethic to everything she did.
In the summer of 2024, Nancy was diagnosed with advanced breast cancer. She faced it with courage and strength, fighting with everything she had. Though she could not overcome it, her spirit and resilience inspired all who knew her. Nancy was taken from us far too soon, but her kindness, laughter, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of everyone who knew her.
Throughout her children's school years, Nancy was actively involved in numerous school and community organizations. She generously volunteered her time wherever she could, always eager to lend a hand. One of her greatest joys was coaching Charlie in ringette for many seasons-a role she embraced with enthusiasm, patience, and pride.
Nancy's happiest moments were spent surrounded by the people-and animals-she loved. Her deep affection for pets, nurtured from childhood, continued throughout her life; she especially enjoyed time at the dog park with her beloved dogs. Family was at the center of her world, and she treasured every moment with her children. Her heart belonged equally to the quiet serenity of her cabin at Marean Lake and the vibrant warmth of Mexico-her two true happy places. She was grateful to spend one final birthday in Mexico, a trip filled with sunshine, laughter, and peace. Nancy also had a special love for her yard and flowers, a passion lovingly passed down from her parents.
Nancy was part of a large, loving extended family and cherished every one of them-her many cousins, aunties, uncles, nieces, and nephews. She held each relationship close to her heart and brought her unique spark to every family gathering.
The Celebration of Nancy's life will be held on Friday, June 27, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. from Saskatoon Funeral Home.
