Neil Warren Richardson
July 29, 1951 - October 12, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Neil Richardson at the age of 73 years.
Neil was born and raised in Regina, SK to Gerry and Florence. He attended the University of Saskatchewan, where he met his future wife, Marjorie, and received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. In the summer of 1973, Neil worked in Whitehorse for the Yukon Territorial Government, performing terrain evaluation for the proposed route of the Dempster Highway. He applied that experience to his Master's Thesis, earning a Master of Science in Geotechnical Engineering.
Neil and Marj married in 1973 and settled in Saskatoon, where they welcomed sons Jeff (1977) and Kevin (1980). Neil devoted himself to his family and community. He was active in coaching minor sports and in Scouting, receiving awards for leadership. Neil enjoyed fitness and loved being active - tennis, skiing, jogging, and cycling.
Neil had a distinguished 42-year career with Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation - first as District Materials Engineer and later as Senior Environmental Engineer. He authored a number of publications on highway construction research, mentored many in his field, served on the Engineering Advisory Committee of the Meewasin Valley Authority, and was a lifetime member of APEGS (Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan). In 2003, Neil received the McCannel Award for service to the profession of Engineering.
Neil will live forever in the hearts of his family. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marjorie; his sons Jeff (Catherine) and Kevin (Aimee); grandchildren Gabriel and Tori; brother Ross (Karen); his nephew Graham and niece Christine (Mac). Neil was predeceased by his parents, Gerry and Florence Richardson and his in-laws, Gordon and Verna Smith.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Reception for Neil will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at W.A. Edwards Family Centre, 333 - 4th Avenue North, Saskatoon. Parking is available across the street at Saskatoon Funeral Home.
Memorial donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or a charity of choice.
