Orest Sadownick

Orest Sadownick passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at the age of 92.

Orest is lovingly remembered by his wife Pauline (nee Laschuk) of 68 years, his children, Paul (Linda) of Toronto, Murray (Tanya) of Saskatoon, and Shona (Ron) of Calgary; and his grandchildren, Derek (Krista) Sadownick, Scott Lowe, Mitchell Lowe, and Nathan Sadownick, as well as extended family and many friends. Orest was predeceased by his grandsons, Grant Lowe and Michael Sadownick.

He was born on September 10, 1933, in Redwater, Alberta, to John and Sophie Sadownick. From an early age, Orest learned the value of hard work and perseverance while helping out on the family on the farm-lessons that shaped his strong work ethic and character throughout his life.

In 1955, Orest moved to Saskatoon, where he built both his career and his family life. He was an original partner of Stodola Concrete and spent 19 years in the concrete industry. Orest earned a reputation by his peers in the industry for his dedication, reliability, and leadership. He served as Founding President of the Prairie Ready-Mix Concrete Association from 1966 to 1967 and was later honored as an honorary member in 1975.

In 1973 after the concrete business was sold, Orest expanded his entrepreneurial pursuits by purchasing and operating the Patricia Hotel in Saskatoon. He successfully managed "The Pat" and established a legacy for sports teams and university students inviting teammates and friends to "Meet Me at The Pat"!

He served as President of the Saskatoon Hotel Association and remained actively involved in the local business community. He was widely respected for his business practices of honesty, fairness, and generosity. The opportunity for retirement arrived when the business was sold in 1996.

In 2011, Orest faced one of his greatest challenges after suffering a stroke. With remarkable strength, determination, and dignity, he worked tirelessly through rehabilitation to regain his independence. In his later years, he was supported with great care and compassion by his caregivers, whose kindness and dedication meant so much to him and his family. He never complained, and his perseverance inspired all who knew him.

Although a quiet man, Orest valued connection. He enjoyed socializing through his involvement with the Kinsmen Club of Saskatoon and later the K-40 Club, as well as his time spent as a member at Riverside GCC golfing with his buddies. An avid golfer, Orest celebrated many highlights on the course. He got two hole-in-ones-one on July 15, 1991, at Silver Springs in Calgary with Pauline's brother, and another on September 6, 2006, at Riverside Country Club three days after Pauline made her own hole-in-one on the same 7th hole. Orest never wanted to be out done by his wife!

Orest was a proud man who lived by strong principles. A perfectionist by nature, he took great pride in everything he did-especially evident in his love of gardening. Above all, Orest was a devoted family man. He was always present for his children and grandchildren-whether coaching, attending events, or quietly supporting them from the sidelines. His steady presence, deep love, and unwavering support will be remembered forever.

He enjoyed fishing, golfing, hunting, and spending summers at Waskesiu Lake with family and friends, creating cherished memories. Orest was very willing to share his fishing skills with his sons, grandsons, and their friends, taking them on numerous fishing expeditions which he thoroughly enjoyed.

He had a deep love for travel and adventure. Orest and Pauline made annual winter escapes to Phoenix, where he especially enjoyed golfing with many Alberta friends and family members. One special trip that they fondly remembered was their visit to Dick and Caryl Bell in Switzerland. The memories they shared on and off the ski hill always brought him a smile and great joy.

Orest will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of hard work, kindness, humor, and dedication to family and community will not be forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to honor Orest's memory by making a donation to Kinsmen TeleMiracle, sharing a laugh, lending a helping hand, or enjoying the outdoors with loved ones.

A private family service has occurred, and at Orest's request a celebration of life will be held at a future date.
