Peter John Cress

Peter John Cress passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026, on his 83rd birthday, surrounded by his loving family.

Peter was born on March 12, 1943, in Kitchener, Ontario. He spent most of his life in Saskatoon, SK, where he built a life rooted in family, friendship and community.

He enjoyed a long career with Scotiabank for nearly 30 years - a career marked by dedication and integrity. It was at the bank in Calgary where he met the love of his life, Shirley. He made numerous friends at the many branches he worked for throughout his career in Calgary, Picture Butte, Carrot River, Spiritwood, Tisdale and Saskatoon.

He will best be remembered for his gift of making people feel cared for. He loved woodworking and took great pride in creating beautiful things for family and friends. Another pastime dad enjoyed was making cookies and candy at Christmas time to give away. His cinnamon buns, chocolate chip cookies and jam jams were among his favourites and became legendary among those fortunate enough to receive them. Dad would often show up at the door with fresh baking in hand and a smile that would brighten anyone's day.

He was a wonderful husband, father and very proud grandpa who loved spending time with his grandkids. When Sam and Brenda were young, Peter delighted in decorating their bikes for small town parade days, turning ordinary bikes into creations, decked out with streamers, ribbons and plastic home made flowers. Those moments captured his playful spirit and joy in making life fun for the people he loved.

His greatest joy in life was his family, especially his grandchildren. When they were young, he loved taking them to "Dinos", playing "doodly doo" and the famous "beep game" with his grandson. He had a unique and special bond with all of them. The love and silliness he shared so freely will continue to live on in them.

One of Peter's true passions was spending many happy hours on the golf course, especially enjoying rounds with his friends Gerry, Mike, Eddie and Jim. He also treasured the simple pleasure of meeting friends for coffee, sharing stories, laughter and the easy companionship that meant so much.

Peter will be remembered for his quick humour, his love of laughter and the way he never missed a chance to be silly and put a smile on someone's face.

He leaves behind his wife of 60 years, Shirley, his children Sam, Brenda (Richard) and his beloved grandchildren, Michael, Carley (David), Bailey (Jordan) and Sydney. He is also survived by his siblings, Sue, Bob, Jim, Dave and many nieces and nephews.

He will be deeply missed and warmly remembered by everyone whose life he touched.

In honour of Peter's wishes, there will not be a funeral service. In lieu of flowers, if you so choose, please send a donation to a charity of your choice.

We would like to gratefully acknowledge the wonderful staff in the Palliative Care Unit at St. Paul's Hospital for the amazing care they provided dad in his last few days.

We love and miss you so much already dad. We know you're up there planning your next round of golf and listening to Elvis! Save us a seat on the cart and prepare a new "dad" joke until we see you again :)
