Phyllis Lorraine
Austman
Apr 27, 1933 — Apr 30, 2026
The family of Phyllis Lorraine Austman wishes to announce her peaceful passing at home, surrounded by family.
She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Theresa; her brother, Stanley; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
She leaves to mourn her sister-in-law, Lorine Austman; her niece, Vickie Miller; her children, Dustin and Stephanie (Travis Runn); her nephew, Jeffrey Austman (Marlene), and their children, Jeffrey Joseph (JJ) (Lindsay); her niece, Christine (Michael McKechnie); her great-great-nieces, Madyson and Taya Runn; her great-great-nephew, Austin McKechnie; as well as numerous cousins and many good friends, whom she was very close to.
She was the matriarch of our family and gave her whole life to helping others. Caring for her family and friends was her greatest gift, and she enjoyed the time she spent with them.
Phyllis accomplished many great things in her lifetime, including becoming a Registered Nurse so she could fulfill her dream of becoming a stewardess and travelling the world. During her 12 years as a stewardess, she met many fascinating people such as Maurice “Rocket” Richard, Bobby Orr, Colonel Saunders, and several others.
She was a full-time nurse up until the age of 80. During this time, she returned to school to pursue her degrees in nursing and education. She enjoyed teaching the nursing assistant program, where she inspired and guided new nurses entering into the field of work she cherished so dearly.
She retired on three separate occasions while working for several different health agencies in Northern Saskatchewan. During her time nursing in Northern Saskatchewan, she worked as a Public Health Nurse, an RN, and a Nurse Practitioner in numerous northern communities.
She was a kind, caring person and would help anyone in need. One of her highlights was meeting celebrity Snoop Dogg by winning a Saskatoon C95 radio contest at the age of 91. She loved the special nickname given to her, “Aunt Phyzzle,” along with the special treatment she received on her memorable evening.
She was also a 57-year survivor of breast cancer.
A funeral will be held at Saskatoon Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. on May 21, 2026. Following the service, a reception will be held at the W. A. Edwards Family Centre, offering time for family and friends to gather and share memories. A private family interment will take place at Kenaston Cemetery.
