With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Polly Meakin of Langham Saskatchewan. Polly passed away peacefully on May 24 th , 2023 at the age of 93 at the Langham Care Home after a 28 year battle with Parkinsons Disease.
Polly was born February 18, 1930 to John and Polly Maloff (nee Kasahoff) and had many fond memories of growing up on the farm in the Langham district and attending school at the one-room Henrietta schoolhouse.
At a young age, she married Bill Meakin of Langham and together, they raised a family and farmed in the Asquith and Langham areas.
Polly loved living on the farm and cherished her big gardens, her fruitful orchards, her big open sky, and will be forever remembered for her home-made bread, lapsha and fresh delicious borscht. Polly developed a lifelong passion for health and natural wellness and became a wealth of knowledge of herbs and supplements.
Polly loved her Doukhobor cultural history and was deeply involved with the Langham and Saskatoon Doukhobor societies. Her cultural mentoring and involvement in the Doukhobor choirs was very inspirational to many people of all generations.
Polly was predeceased by her parents John and Polly, her brothers Bill and John, sisters Anne and Marjorie, her son Kerry, her first husband Bill, and her second husband Andy Tokaryk.
Polly is survived by her sons Ron (Sylvia) Meakin, Don (Catherine) Meakin, her daughter Pauline Meakin as well as 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews, extended families, and numerous friends.
The Funeral service will be held at Saskatoon Funeral Home at 11am on Monday, June 5 th .
