Forever in our hearts
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of René Wilfrid Sirois - a beloved son, brother, uncle, cousin, and dear friend to many.
René was born to Maurice and Lorraine Sirois and raised in Zenon Park, Saskatchewan. After completing high school, he moved to Calgary to attend the DeVry Institute of Technology, where he studied Computer Programming. He later relocated to Eastern Canada, eventually settling in Montreal, where he lived for over 25 years. During that time, he held a variety of jobs before becoming self-employed. In 2014, René returned to Saskatchewan to be closer to his mother and family.
René was a gentle and humble soul. His spirituality was central to his life, and he became one of Jehovah's Witnesses in the early 1990's. He found great strength and joy in his faith community, forming many close and enduring friendships. René had a wonderful sense of humor and a kind, thoughtful nature that made time spent with him truly enjoyable.
He loved the outdoors and, in his younger years, was an enthusiastic cyclist and runner. He also had a deep appreciation for music and cooking, and cherished long coffee visits and phone calls with friends and family - especially his dear mom, whose needs he always placed before his own.
In July 2019, René was diagnosed with lung cancer. He faced the illness with courage and grace, battling it for six years.
René was predeceased by his father, Maurice Sirois, and his stepfather, Gordon Bugg. He is survived by his loving mother, Lorraine Sirois-Bugg; his sisters: Bernice Carpentier (René), Jacqueline Desgagné (Michel), Lucille Sirois-Donnelly (Bob), and Suzette Riou (Steve); his brothers: Laurent Sirois (Marielle) and Denis Sirois (Denise); his step-sister, Deborah Bartlett (Scott); and his step-brother, Tom Bugg (Karen). He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, as well as countless friends - many from his spiritual family within the Jehovah's Witness community.
A celebration of René's life will be held on Saturday, September 20th at 2:00 p.m. at Saskatoon Funeral Home.
