It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Richard "Richie" McLeay on January 30, 2025 at the age of 69. Son of the late Finlay and Mina McLeay, Richard is survived and mourned by his sister, Diane, of Scotland and his brother, Don (Elaine) of Ottawa, as well as the members of his large extended family.
Richie had a magnetic personality, an infectious smile and a curious mind. He liked people and people liked him. This was a great asset in his career within the service industry. He started out working at Gibson Photo, where he was able to build on his hobby of photography, which later evolved into many commissions for wedding photos.
Over the years, he mastered the art of bartending at the Patricia Hotel, the Bessborough, Amigos and the Granite Curling Club. As co-owner of David's Restaurant, he also refined his culinary skills, and ultimately became a fine chef in his own right.
Richie loved golf, and in recent years was able to expand his golf horizons by working at Golf Town and marshaling at the Willows.
He enjoyed life's simple pleasures, like watching his favourite sports, particularly F-1 and football; cooking a great meal for family or friends; playing a round of golf with his buddies; listening to good tunes; tending to his vegetable plants; and canning, pickling, and making jams and jellies.
Richie enjoyed talking with folks from all walks of life and took a real interest in the stories and experiences they shared with him. He was a true "people person," and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
"Grieve not that he has died. But give thanks that he lived."
A Celebration of Richard's Life will be held May 26, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Amigos Cantina, 806 Dufferin Ave., Saskatoon.
