Robert Lewis Findlater

It is with deep sadness that the family of Robert (Robbie) Lewis Findlater announces his passing on July 8, 2026, at The Hospice at Glengarda, at the age of 80, following a courageous battle with cancer. 

Robbie is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Christine Findlater and Jaime Gipman (Tyson Weber); the father of his grandsons, Keith Gipman; his grandsons, Cade and Asher Gipman; his sister-in-law, Donna Findlater; his nieces, Kathy Switzer and Joan Oke (Ed Oke); his nephew, Dennis Read (Lois Read); and many dear friends. 

He was predeceased by his parents, Lewis and Bessie Findlater; his sister, Gladys Read; his brother, Gordon Findlater; and the mother of his children, Norma Findlater (née Pettapiece, later Kirkpatrick). 

Born and raised in Saskatoon, Robbie attended Albert School and Nutana Collegiate before joining the Saskatoon Police Service in 1965, where he served with dedication and professionalism until his retirement in 2000. 

Robbie enjoyed an active life filled with sport, music, and community. A longtime curler and team lead with the Saskatoon Police Curling Club, he travelled throughout Canada, the United States, and Europe. His team was inducted into the Saskatoon Sports Hall of Fame in 1990. He also served for many years as manager of the Saskatoon Hilltops Football Club, where he formed lifelong friendships. Robbie, in his role as manager, along with the Hilltops organization, was inducted into the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame in 1997 in recognition of an outstanding era in the club's history. 

Music was one of Robbie's greatest joys. A talented bagpiper and pianist, he performed with the Saskatoon Boys' Pipe Band, the North Saskatchewan Regiment Pipes and Drums, Strathfleet Pipes and Drums, and the Saskatoon Police Pipes and Drums. Sharing this passion with his brother Gordon was especially meaningful. 

Proud of his Scottish heritage, Robbie travelled to Scotland twice to trace his family roots and reconnect with relatives. He also enjoyed golfing, watching sports, and cheering faithfully for his beloved Minnesota Vikings. 

Robbie lived a life of service, friendship, music, and family. He will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. 

In keeping with Robbie's wishes, no service will be held at this time. 

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at The Hospice at Glengarda for the exceptional care, kindness, and dignity they provided to Robbie and their support for his family during his final days.
