I am profoundly heartbroken to announce that my Dad, Lorne Jamieson, passed away unexpectedly on July 13th. We were at the home of dear family friends having dinner when he died. I am so incredibly grateful to have been present for his last moments.
Lorne was born on a farm near McAuley, Manitoba, a modest start to an incredible life. After the farm, he went on to an abbreviated teaching career. He then had a career in broadcasting, as a radio announcer and a TV news anchor, first in Manitoba and then ending at CFQC in Saskatoon.
Looking for new challenges, Lorne went on to study law at the University of Saskatchewan, earning his law degree in 1969 and a Queen’s Counsel appointment in 2007. He worked at several local Saskatoon firms and then established his own firm, Jamieson Bains. I was lucky to have had the opportunity to article at his firm and to work with him. Although he “unofficially” retired from Jamieson Bains when he was into his sixties, he continued to practice law until he was 80 years old. He was incredibly fond of his clients and they were extremely grateful and reliant on his wise counsel.
He married my Mom, Marjorie Pyott, in 1958. They remained married until her death in 2011. They travelled the world and generally really had a great time. I loved that for them.
Lorne’s favorite pastimes were watching televised sports events and playing golf. He was outstanding at the former but was always disappointed with how he fared at the latter.
Lorne was surrounded by great friends who loved him and were of enormous help in the last years, namely Gord and Mary Jane Johnson, Ken and Judy Stevenson, Sandra and Graham Earl, Bob Adam and so many others.
A Life Celebration will take place in the Riverview Room at the Remai Modern Art Gallery in Saskatoon on August 2nd from 2:00 to 5:00 pm.
Lorne was a wonderful, intelligent, generous, considerate and loving man who was guided always by his immense sense of integrity. He was the best father anyone could have had and, given the chance, he would have been an awesome grandfather. He was also tons of fun and we shared a lot of laughs together over the years. I couldn’t have been more proud of him.
Goodbye Dad. I will love you always and miss you forever.
In lieu of flowers Lorne would have appreciated a donation to the Saskatoon SPCA.
