A gentle man of deep faith who loved his family and contributed significantly to his community and the practice of law, Bob Stevenson passed away peacefully on Friday, October 4, 2024, at the age of 79.

Bob was born on December 18, 1944, to Helen (Wolfe) and Louis Stevenson and grew up on the family farm in Golden Prairie, Saskatchewan, with his brother Pat and sister Glenda. The Cypress Hills, fondly known as the 'the hills,' always held a special place in his heart. In 1966 he married Mary Dolan and joyfully welcomed two daughters, Jennifer (1971) and Katherine (1974). In 1982, Bob married Betty Anne (Joyce), and they enjoyed 42 years of love as partners in marriage.

He attended Campion College in Regina and, upon graduation, the University of Saskatchewan. Bob enjoyed his time as a student at St. Thomas More College, feeding his creative spirit through acting with the Newman Players, serving as president of the Newman Club and, in later years, on the Corporation Board for the College. In 1969 he was called to the bar, beginning a 50-year legal career that included a general practice in Saskatoon and teaching at the College of Law in Saskatoon. As a defence attorney, he would never turn away a person in need and was a strong advocate for his clients.

Extremely well-read, Bob was renowned for his love of books, curating an enormous and eclectic library that he was always eager to share with his colleagues, friends, and family.

Bob had a deep love of music. He was known for his wonderful bass voice and ear for music, lending his talents to the Joy of Vox choir and the Chimo Chordsmen Barbershop ensemble. He loved to entertain his daughters when they were small by playing just about anything on the piano despite not being able to read music. In his later years, he decided to learn this skill and bravely took introductory piano lessons, performing his first recital with six-year-old classmates. Despite challenges in communicating in his last years, Bob would still sing along to Tony Bennett and Willie Nelson.

Bob was committed to living an active life. A long-time member of the YMCA, he brought his daughters to aerobics before the school day started and signed the whole family up for the Caribou Classic on New Year's Day. He could be seen running the bridges during the noon hour in his banana yellow sweatsuit and biking to and from work in his business suit and long trench coat, briefcase secured to the rack.

Bob was also dedicated to his community and a passionate volunteer. He gave his time and talents to the Saskatoon Kiwanis Club, Salvation Army, St. Thomas More College, and the Saskatoon French School. He served as legal counsel for the Catholic and Anglican Dioceses of Saskatoon. In 2023, Bob was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal for his contributions to his community and the practice of law.

A man of strong character and faith, Bob was simply kind, generous, compassionate, and fair. In the last seven years of his life, he showed tremendous strength and courage, living up to his lifelong motto "to be the best he could be." He was immensely dedicated to all his family and a faithful friend to many. He is lovingly remembered by his beloved wife, Betty Anne; daughters Jennifer (Shawn) and Katherine (Ray); grandchildren Sarah, Adam, Hugo, and Nora; sister Glenda (George); and many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."
2 Timothy 4:7
