Roma Marie Lipka

Roma Lipka (née Redl) was born September 25, 1939 in Wakaw, Saskatchewan, the fourth child of Angeline (Kohn) and John Redl. She attended school there with her seven siblings. After high school she attended Saskatoon Business College.

Roma met the love of her life Stan Lipka and they were married in 1958 in Wakaw. Their early years together were spent between Saskatoon and Wakaw Lake where the early operations of the Wakaw Lake Lodge (aka "the store" at Poplar Beach) kept them busy and in great company.

In 1967 Roma and Stan moved to Portal, North Dakota and ran Walker's Bar and Lounge and later built AmeriCana Motel and Captn Shorty's Diner. In 1978 they began their transition to Mission, Texas, drawn by the sun and citrus. They bought an R.V. Park where they welcomed and befriended hundreds of "snow birds" many of whom became lifelong friends.

Roma and Stan often visited Saskatchewan in the summers to beat the Texas heat, bringing their R.V. to "the lake" to enjoy friend and family gatherings and to welcome visitors to their site with country music and snacks under the awning.

After caring for Stan until his death in 2006, Roma returned to live full time in Saskatoon, spending summers at Wakaw Lake with occasional adventures in Australia and B.C. with her "sibs". She remained active and independent, always busy with a project.

Roma Lipka died on September 20th, 2026, in the Palliative Care Unit at St. Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon following a stroke related to her dementia.

Roma was predeceased by her husband Stan Lipka, her parents, Angeline (Kohn) and John Redl, older brothers Don Redl (Joyce Osborne) and Denis Redl, older sister Rita Kelly (John) and younger brother Dale Redl. Roma is survived by her brother Dave Redl (Marge Oleksiuk), sisters Rhonda Gough (Brent), and Roberta Redl (Adrian Neville), and sisters-in-law Norma Redl (Billesberger), Judy Redl (Bodnarchuk), and Fran Borowski (Lipka).

She was lovingly called "Aunty Roma" by more than 27 nieces and nephews, and many grand and great grand ones, too. Those who knew Roma will miss her detailed and lively stories, her hospitality, and her love of celebrations. We'll think of her anytime we watch a parade, drink from a light-up plastic cup, or wear a red shirt on Canada Day.
