Ronald William Fast

With sadness, the family of Ronald William Fast announces his passing.

Ron was born on February 2, 1955, in Saskatoon.

A man of deep faith, Ron was a devoted member of Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church in Saskatoon. His faith provided comfort, guidance, and purpose throughout his life and remained central to who he was.

In his younger years, Ron enjoyed music and played drums in several local rock bands, including Swamp and Nerve Center. He also trained as an upholstery apprentice and took pride in working with his hands.

In his early twenties, Ron was diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a rare and progressive autoimmune disease that presented lifelong challenges. Through it all, Ron faced life with resilience, determination, and quiet strength.

Despite the limitations the disease imposed, Ron maintained a lifelong interest in history, current events, and the stories behind people and places. He enjoyed learning, following the news, and spending quiet evenings watching programs about hidden treasures, discoveries, and the unexpected finds that connected people to the past. Above all, he treasured time spent with his family.

Ron was predeceased by his parents, William Fast and Lottie Penno; his brother, Gary Fast; his mother-in-law, Eve Wiebe; and his brother-in-law, Kevin Bundschuh.

Ron is survived by his wife of 42 years, Kim Fast; his daughters, Kelly (Michael) Fairbrother and Cari-ann Fast (Thawzin Thaw); his son, Bruce Gower; his grandchildren, Lillian and Oliver Fairbrother, and Brice, Brick, and Shayla Gower; his father-in-law, Harold Bundschuh (Marj Bergen); his sister-in-law, Liza Bundschuh; his brother-in-law, Jeff Bundschuh; his nephews, Nathan Bundschuh, Spencer (Kendra) Bundschuh, and Liam (Kelsey) Bundschuh; his great-nephew, Beau Bundschuh; and many other relatives and friends.

Those who knew Ron will remember his steadfast faith, gentle spirit, and devotion to his family. Nothing brought him greater pride than his children and the families they built. He leaves behind many fond memories and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Prayers will be held on Tuesday, August 4th at 7:00 p.m., followed by the Funeral Service on Wednesday, August 5th at 10:00 a.m., both at Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Ron’s memory may be made to Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church or the St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation in recognition of the compassionate care he received.
