With heavy hearts and so many wonderful memories, the family of Ronald Muench, 84, of Saskatoon Saskatchewan, announces his passing on Saturday, September 6 at the St.Paul's Palliative Care Unit in Saskatoon.
Ron was born on July 29, 1941 in Humboldt, Saskatchewan to Elizabeth and Philip Muench. He grew up in Muenster with his eight siblings, where tending to cows and chickens in the backyard was simply part of daily life. It was also in Muenster that he developed a love for hockey and baseball-passions he carried with him throughout his life.
He dedicated his life to teaching, beginning his career in Humboldt, Sjolie country school, and Watson before moving to Saskatoon and starting a long and meaningful career with Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools. GSCS quickly became like a second family, where he spent the rest of his career as a teacher, principal, and coordinator at the division office-always an educator at heart. It was during his time at Holy Cross, while teaching and coaching wrestling, that his athletes encouraged him to stop by the nurse's office to meet the new young nurse. That nurse, Beverly Sherwin, soon became the love of his life, and just a year later they were married. This past July, Ron and Bev celebrated 54 wonderful years together.
Ron's happiest place was the cabin he built at Wakaw Lake, where he loved boating, golfing, playing cards, and spending time with the friends and family he cherished and deeply loved. He was always ready to lend a helping hand, share his passion for hockey, baseball, and golf, and delight others with his storytelling-truly a friend to all. Yet nothing meant more to him than family: first his four boys, Kent (Carrie), Mark (Krissy), Kurt (Dara), and Craig (Kristin), and later the joy of eight grandchildren who became the center of Popeye's world-Noah, Adlai, Kalen, Everett, Avery, Victoria, Brooks, and Ellis.
Ron's faith was always at the center of his life. He found a home in St. Augustine Parish in Saskatoon and through the Knights of Columbus, but more than anything, he lived his faith in the way he treated people every day. He had a way of lifting others up-through his kindness, his words, and his actions-always inspiring those around him to be better and to love more deeply.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Saskatoon on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life will follow at École St. Matthew School, 1508 Arlington Avenue, Saskatoon, beginning at 4:00 p.m. All who loved Ron and were touched by his life are welcome to join. His family would love to see you there.
We are grateful to all friends and family who have shared their love, support, and cherished memories of Ron during this time. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools Foundation in Ron's honour would be gratefully appreciated.
