It is with sadness that the family announces the death of Rose Ann Keindel (nee Sand): beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. Rose Ann passed peacefully in the Palliative Care Unit at St. Paul's Hospital on Tuesday, December 16, 2025 at the age of 85.

Rose Ann had a large family, of which she was always incredibly proud. Rose Ann is survived by her son Michael Keindel (Laurie); daughters Ann Marie David (Tracy), Kathleen Goodmanson (Derek), and Patti Fidelack (Rodney); grandchildren Krystopher Keindel and Melanie Young (Brandon), Alex David (Erika), Sydney MacDonald, and Samantha David, Justin (Carly) and Mallory (Ben) Goodmanson, Kara and Kyla Fidelack; great-grandchildren Adalane and Stetson MacDonald and Sawyer David; siblings Joan Girodat, Marilyn Girodat, Carole Arcand, Robert Sand (Brigitte), Henry Sand (Gail), Gerry Yacishyn (Willie), and Angela Barsness (Blake); in-laws Eileen (Pat) Salmon, Iris Keindel, Claire Keindel; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and other extended family members. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 59 years, Don; parents, Michael and Rosa Sand (Foerster); sister Rita McCuaig; parents-in-law Bill and Leonie Keindel, brothers-in-law Ken and Gordon Girodat, Marcel Arcand, Bill Keindel and John Keindel; and sister-in-law Berniece Keindel.

Rose Ann was born on June 6, 1940 in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan. She was raised on a farm outside of Shaunavon in a large family of 9 children, of which she was the eldest. She attended elementary and high school in the Shaunavon area and moved to Saskatoon to attend nursing school after graduation. She graduated from the school of nursing at St. Paul's Hospital in 1962. Rose Ann was a nurse for several years; this was where she met the love of her life, Don, after a motorcycle accident landed him in the hospital for an extended stay. Don and Rose Ann were married on December 28, 1963 and made their home on Cairns Avenue, where they welcomed their four children (Michael, Ann Marie, Kathleen, and Patti). After their children were born, Rose Ann continued to work in various jobs where she could help people; this led her to become a Pastoral Care Worker at St. Philip Neri Parish, where she worked from 1986 to 2002.

After 53 years living in their home, Don and Rose Ann moved to St. Volodymyr Court in 2016, where they lived together until Don's passing in 2022. Rose Ann was a devoted wife and caretaker while Don was living with Alzheimer's, tending to his every need until he was moved into care shortly before his passing. After Don's passing, Rose Ann remained at St. Volodymyr and continued to be an active and engaged member of various communities, including several bereavement groups, where she used her gifts of compassion and care. She was fiercely independent and continued to enjoy outings with friends and involvement in the community until a decline in her health necessitated a move to Trinity Manor in Saskatoon in July 2025. Rose Ann spent her last days in the Palliative Care Unit at St. Paul's Hospital.

Rose Ann's passions were her family and her faith. She took great pride in her family and enjoyed any activity where she could be around loved ones. Her other hobbies included gardening, cooking and hosting family members, and enjoying a glass of red wine or a bowl of ice cream. She was a fashion-forward woman who was always put-together and sporting new outfits and jewelry. Rose Ann was also an avid reader and enjoyed traveling, especially with family members.

Many happy family memories were made while camping and spending time at the family cabins at Jack Fish Lake (Aquadeo Beach) and Diefenbaker Lake (Coteau Beach). Rose Ann loved cheering on her grandchildren at dance, drama, and sporting events. Her travels took her across Canada, the United States, and recently, to Costa Rica. Rose Ann had a close group of friends that she enjoyed going out for meals with. She is most fondly remembered for her warm smile, sweet demeanour, and quiet strength.

The family would like to thank the following for all of their care and support over the past 6 months: the Palliative Care staff at St. Paul's, the wards at RUH that cared for mom during her stays (neurosurgery, cardiac care unit, cardiac ward 5100, medical ward 5200, Dr. Arun Elangovan), the staff at Trinity Manor, Olivia and Prairie Hospice, the Community Palliative Unit, PT and OT, Home Instead, and all of the friends and family who made the time to visit and support mom. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Paul's Hospital Palliative Care Unit or Prairie Hospice.

The Vigil of Prayer will be held at St. Philip Neri Church (1902 Munroe Avenue) in Saskatoon at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, December 19, 2025. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Philip Neri Parish at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 20, 2025. The service can be watched via livestream with the link at the top of this page. Following the funeral, a lunch will be served in the welcome area of the church.
