June Garner passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at Circle Drive Special Care Home. June was born in Lloydminster, SK on June 28, 1932 to Joy and Ronald Firth.

June is survived by her; son, Alan (Bev) Garner; daughter Linda (Gary) Lawrence; grandchildren, Jennifer (Geoff) Bingham; Carol (Colin) Pratt; John (Lauren) Garner; Andrea (Francis) Waterhouse; Mark Lawrence; 8 great grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces. June was pre-deceased by, her husband Leslie; parents Joy & Ronald; infant brother Ralph; brother Brian (Winnie); in-laws Wilfrid (Evelyn); infant George; Ray (Betty); Edith (Ross) Hoshal; grand daughter-in-law Denae Lawrence.

June’s early years were spent in Greenstreet and Lilac, SK. They moved to Saskatoon in 1942 where she attended Wilson School and City Park Collegiate. After graduation, she worked at the Federal Seed Laboratory and the Extension Department U of S.

Mom met Dad on a blind date arranged by mutual friends. They were married October 23, 1954. Mom and Dad always said they lived on love the first few years as weather played havoc with the crops. The city girl quickly adjusted to life on the Garner family farm at Colonsay. Before long she could candle eggs, drive truck, tractor and combine. In addition to helping farm, she managed the household, made meals, maintained a large garden, canning and freezing all the bounty and baked the best bread.

In March 1980, June and Les moved to Colonsay. Alan and Bev moved into the farmhouse and began taking over the farm. Mom worked in the office at the Colonsay Co-op from 1983 - 1997. She also drove school bus for 13 years. She was active in the UCW, Rebekah Lodge and 4-H. She and Dad believed strongly in community volunteerism. Mom was part of the homecoming committee on several occasions and was instrumental in the publishing of two Colonsay history books. For years she helped organize the fall supper and many funeral lunches. She enjoyed sewing and knitting, making all of her and Linda’s clothing for years. She also knit many gorgeous sweaters for family. She and Dad loved Sunday drives to see the sights, visit with neighbours and most importantly to check the crops!

In May 2015 Mom and Dad moved from Colonsay to Preston Park II in Saskatoon. There they enjoyed the many activities and company of other seniors. They spent 6 years at PPII until declining health forced Mom to move to Montgomery Care Home and Dad to long-term care until his passing October 2021. In July 2025, Mom was moved to Circle Drive Care Home where she resided until her passing. The family is very appreciative of the staff at Montgomery Care Home and Circle Drive Special Care Home. They provided loving and excellent care to Mom.

Mom was a calm, quiet individual who loved her family, friends and community. She had a wonderful smile and laugh that could always brighten our day. She will be missed.
