It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of Ruth Bond-Martinson. She was one month short of her 101st birthday.
She leaves behind her loving daughters: Kathy Bond, Ruth (Don) Parenteau, Bonnie (Allan Duhaime) Bond, Barb (Trevor) Cross, and her brother, James (Gloria) Cousins. She was blessed with 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her son Ken Bond (survived by wife Deb Frey), first husband Frank Bond, daughter Fran Nutter (survived by husband Bob Nutter) and her second husband Harold Martinson.
Mom was a proud World War II veteran. She was a member of the Maple Leaf Unit (ANAVETS) and Legion #63 at the time of her passing. She had many stories about her life in the Navy and how she came from Belmont, Ontario to be married to Frank and moving to rural Saskatchewan before settling in Saskatoon. She spent over 80 years enjoying time with her family and friends at the cabin at Emerald Lake.
Mom will be remembered for many things - her love of hot dogs (and homemade relish); 'dark and dirty' drinks (ask any sailor what this is); her obsession with her birds and bird feeder and her excitement of going to the casino. But above all was her love of her family.
Her favourite saying was....I am so lucky. We all felt blessed and lucky to know and love her for so many years.
Celebration of her life will be on Sunday, September 27, at 2:00 p.m. at Saskatoon Funeral Home, 338 4th Avenue North. Reception to follow at HMCS Unicorn. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made on her behalf to the Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans (ANAVETS) or Legion #63.
Arrangements entrusted to Saskatoon Funeral Home, 306-244-5577.
