Ruth Martens was born on the family farm near Hague Sask on April 9, 1934 the oldest of 9 children. She passed away on August 7, 2024 at the age of 90 at St. Ann's Home. She worked in Saskatoon for 6 years before marrying Henry Martens in 1959. They moved to the farm, south of Saskatoon where they lived for the next 37 years. During that time they had 4 children Eileen, Maureen, Lyle and Louise and were busy working on the running the farm, driving to kids activities, and volunteering at Church and in the community. In 1995 Henry and Ruth retired from farming and moved to Saskatoon. They spent many happy years in a town house on Bernini Drive and attending Seniors at Forest Grove Church. In 2007 they moved to Bethany Manor and were a vital part of the community until this past January when mom moved to St. Ann's Home. Mom volunteered at the Clothes Closet, Ten thousand Villages and at the hospital holding babies. They were also very also very active in the Church. Mom was a Deacon and visited many people in their time of need.

Ruth and Henry enjoyed many trips across Canada and the United States and as far away as Australia. Ruth also went to Rwanda and Cuba as well as many trips to visit family.

Ruth is survived by her children Eileen, Maureen (Tim), Lyle, Louise (Tony). Grandchildren Chelsey (Paul), Brodie (Jackie), Christopher (Shobha), Cynthia (Tyler), Kylee (Alex), Jesse (Kirk), Jackson, Sam, Quinlan. Great Grandchildren Max, Ada, Eliza and Maryam. Siblings Bill, Peter (Pat), Elsie (Walt), Eric (Kate), Helen (Ken). Sisters in law Patty and Gladys. Ruth was predeceased by her husband of 55 years Henry, her parents John D and Justina Rempel, Son in law Henry Chu, her sister Verna, brother and sister in law Vic and Rosalind,brother Menno, brother in law Ed, nephews Dwayne and Derrick, as well as all of Henry's brothers and sisters.

The family would like to thank the staff at Bethany Villa and St. Ann's Home for their care of mom in the last year.

A service to Celebrate Ruth's life will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at First Mennonite Church, 418 Queen Street beginning at 1:30 pm. Interment of her cremated remains will follow at Pleasant Point Cemetery.
